Do you like needlework and making various souvenirs and gifts? Looking for new opportunities? Try to make the same souvenir as in the next photo. This is not difficult. The pattern of the box is taken ready-made from the template or lined up by analogy on its own. In the first case, you just need to circle the diagram on cardboard and fabric, cut out the details and combine them into a finished item. The second method will take a little longer, but this way you will create an exclusive author's item.

How to execute a pattern

If you have ever come across a pattern of a plywood box, or rather, a drawing of its individual parts, then you should know that you can use the same blank for cardboard. You have two work options:

In both cases, you need to know the dimensions of the finished product that you are going to create.

What materials and tools are needed

In order for you to get the correct pattern of the box and a high-quality, neat product in the future, prepare the following:

  • cardboard;
  • scissors;
  • paper;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • eraser;
  • a rod with a pointed end (knitting needle, toothpick) for making clear even folds on cardboard;
  • fabric for decoration and filler (if necessary);
  • glue;
  • threads, if the product will consist of separate elements;
  • decor (beads, beads, satin ribbons, flowers, sequins, butterflies, etc.)

As you can see, nothing unusual will be needed either for making a pattern or for making the souvenir itself.

Cardboard box

Patterns, sweeps, diagrams, blanks of such products can be very diverse, but there are two options for creating:

  • Production of bulk products from flat circuit, cut out of paper by bending the elements in the appropriate places.
  • Stitching separate parts, forming a three-dimensional object.

In the first method, you will definitely need to first draw guides along the fold lines with a pointed object. This will allow in the future to carefully and without jamming to bend thick cardboard in the form of a straight line. At the same time, you must definitely provide for gluing places if you build the circuit yourself.

The second method involves stitching parts, so you do not need gluing allowances, but you will need to make holes around the perimeter of each part at a small distance from the edge of the element. It is better to use an awl and prepare a preliminary marking of the holes so that they are at the same distance relative to each other and from the edge too. Stitching can be done both with a needle and by tying the connected parts with a hook.

Fabric box pattern

If you do not have a beautiful decorative cardboard, but a lot of bright shreds, you can easily create your own unique design of the box. It is worth pasting the elements with matter before assembly. To build a pattern for fabric parts, you need to use a template for a cardboard base and add allowances for bending the material from the front to the wrong side. So that these allowances are not visible inside the box, it makes sense, after wrapping the cardboard blank with a cloth, to glue an additional layer on the inside, for example, from beautiful paper.

Variety of options

The first illustration of this section shows the pattern of the box and its view in volume. This pattern can be used for cardboard, fabric, or postcards. In this case, the lower part can also be made from a single sheet with fold lines in the places indicated by a dotted line, and be sewn from separate elements. In the second case, gluing allowances must be removed.

The lid of the product is easiest to make in the manner proposed in the diagram, by cutting out a part similar to the bottom in shape and size, and gluing it to the base on a strip of cardboard. The second method is more laborious, but the lid of the box will turn out to be presentable. The scheme is taken the same as for the base, only on a slightly larger scale, because ready product should be easy to put on the bottom. To understand how much to increase the size, it is enough to measure the thickness of the cardboard and take its double size.

The next image shows a pattern of a pentagonal box made of cardboard, which can also be decorated with fabric. Here the lid is one piece with the bottom, which is convenient. If you also make a fabric blank according to this pattern, do not forget to add allowances for bending the material inward, where they are not on the template (it was originally intended for assembling a cardboard product).

If you want to make a box in the shape of a cube, use the following blank. By the way, this option is perfect for creating (a photo of the finished sample is in the next section).

If you prefer rectangular version, then take the next pattern-blank. Print the template in the size that suits you, cut out the shape along the outline and fold in the appropriate places. Glue where required. Your box, consisting of a base and a lid, is ready!

So, you saw several options for patterns for boxes, according to which it is easy to make products. different forms and designs. Each drawing can also become a model for the development of your individual design.

Original products from available material

By analogy with cardboard, a pattern of a box of postcards can be easily made with your own hands. It's just that unnecessary colored postcards are taken as the base material. In this case, the parts of the product are cut out separately, and instead of making fold lines, the elements are sewn together with threads through pre-created holes along the contour of each part.

So, you have seen how easy it is to make a box pattern. By choosing one template, you can do different variants design. Everyone will receive an exclusive author's piece of their own performance.

Do-it-yourself fabric box can be made without a single stitch, nail and hammer. Don't believe? We will give you a master class on how to make such a box using glue, cardboard and, of course, fabric.

Let's go to the lesson

The process of making a box of fabric and cardboard with your own hands can be traced on the example of the following master class.

To create, we need, as written above, thin and thick cardboard, glue and scraps of fabric of two types, tracing paper, scissors, a ruler, a pencil and a brush.

Each step of this lesson is provided with a photo for a clearer perception.

The very first step is to cut out the pieces from thick cardboard. We need a couple of 11*16 cm parts, two 11*5 cm blanks and another pair of 16*5 cm blanks.

Now take a less dense cardboard and cut out exactly the same blanks with similar dimensions.

Let's start making the box. To do this, place all the details correctly on the table. In the middle should lie the blank of the bottom, and next to it - the side parts. We fasten the lines of contact with tracing paper or tape, at your discretion.

From a piece of fabric of the same color, we cut out a strip that is about 43 cm long and 8.5 cm high. Now, making an allowance of about two cm from one edge, we begin to glue the strip on either side. It is also worth emphasizing that you should still have a little more fabric left on top and bottom, about 1.5 cm. We fix the fabric on the long side with glue.

Cut the allowances in the corners on each side and glue them to the inside of the box.

We cut out another rectangle from cardboard 11 * 16 cm, and also cut out another piece from fabric 14 * 20 cm. Put the cardboard on the fabric and make allowances of one cm on three sides. mm and draw thin line on fabric. This part will serve as a cover in the future.

Now glue the lid blank to the main box. To do this, glue the non-glued part of the box with glue, and glue the part in such a way that the drawn line on the fabric is aligned with the edge of the box.

Take thin cardboard measuring 10.7 * 15.7 cm and place it on the striped fabric. The fabric allowances on three sides should be one cm each, and we glue them on the cardboard from the inside. From the fourth indent should be two cm. Now take this blank and glue it to the inside of the lid, as shown in the photo.

We glue the strip with that fabric to all other parts from thin cardboard, leaving allowances. We begin to glue the side parts of the box, as shown in the following photos.

The next three blanks can be glued on one fabric, allowances must be made on thick cardboard.

The last step will be to seal the bottom first from the inside with a striped cloth.

And now on the outside with a fabric of the main color.

To store jewelry and small accessories, it is not necessary to buy expensive jewelry boxes or organizers. It is enough just to make a jewelry box out of cardboard with your own hands. Most of the house has wrapping paper, small pieces of lace, beads or beads and other materials that can be used to create an original jewelry box.

Components for crafting:

Cardboard box shape

simple rectangular or square

A do-it-yourself cardboard box for needlework is formed from a box and paper tubes. First you need to choose a suitable basis for the box - for example, a shoe box. It is better to take a base for the bottom approximately the size of an A4 sheet or less, so it will be easier to go through the finishing process.

To form the tubes, you will need glue, knitting needles. For weaving, you can use tubes of plain paper for printing, unnecessary press and magazines. Ready cardboard box can be painted acrylic paints or leave it as is.

Winning Apply colored paper for the printer: it has an extensive color palette.

The process of creating a cardboard box with your own hands will not take much time. First, on the outside of the box, you need to glue the vertical tubes that serve as guides. You need to glue in the interval of 4-6 cm - it all depends on the size of the box. Then the tubes are bent to the side faces, and then inward.

A compacted cardboard is glued to the bottom, suitable in size, which will hide the place where the tubes are fixed. Then the tubes are twisted around the circumference of the base. The lid also folds up.

Round box

For needlewomen, a round coil left over from adhesive tape is an expensive material. This base can be used in different types needlework: decoupage or scrapbooking, decorate with coffee beans, beads, beads, jewelry stones, stick on leather or fabric. To make a box of round cardboard with your own hands, it is advised to use interlaced cardboard.

First you need to attach the reel to the cardboard and draw three circles along the inner and two along the outer diameter. Circles with a smaller diameter are glued together, it is recommended to use Moment glue. Process the finished element with sandpaper and glue it with a circle of large diameter, placing it in the central part.

As a result, a lid will be formed that will hermetically close the box.

If there is a need to process the edges with sandpaper. The box layout is ready. It is allowed to decorate it to your taste with different beads and decorative stones using any needlework technique. The lid can be made slightly protruding: you need to increase one of the circles with a large diameter. This will make the box easier to open.

Heart shaped box

The heart-shaped box is wonderful as a gift wrapper for Valentine's Day. First of all, you need to cut out a heart-shaped element from cardboard - this is the bottom of the box, the dimensions of which will determine the parameters of the box as a whole. Then you need to cut out a wide strip of cardboard with teeth on one side. Glue the strip to the bottom. Assemble the other side in the same way.

It is necessary to glue the two halves of the walls and attach them with paper clips, wait for the glue to dry. Decorate the box inside and outside with paper with different textures or ornaments. Glue two pieces of fringe to the base - they will be as curtains on which the lid is held. Then cut out the second heart, this will be the top cover. It must be glued to the curtains.

Decorated paper should be glued in the same way. Then, to your taste, you need to decorate a cardboard box in the shape of a heart. Along the contour, as an option, you can glue lace. Top decorate with flowers, beads, ribbons, etc.

Large boxes with many small drawers and storage compartments are quite expensive. We want to offer you a simple and original idea- to sew, yes, yes, it is to sew a box for rings with your own hands.

You will need:

  • an old wooden box with a lid;
  • wood paint and brush;
  • a cut of dense cotton or linen fabric;
  • tailor's scissors;
  • needle and thread for sewing

DIY ring box

Step 1

If necessary, sand the wooden box and then paint it. Let the paint dry.

Step 2

Measure the inner perimeter of the box and the height of the sides.

Step 3

Cut a long strip from a thick linen or cotton fabric with a width equal to the length of the perimeter of the box with 1 cm allowances.

Step 4

Fold the strip in half front side inside and grind it in short sections into a ring.

Step 5

Overlock open cuts or zigzag stitch on the sewing machine.

Step 6

Unscrew allowances for long sections by wrong side and set up. Turn the strip right side out.

Step 7

Fold the strip with an accordion so that the height of the resulting part is slightly lower than the height of the sides of the box.

Step 8

“Try on” the resulting accordion - put it in the box, the folds should fit snugly against each other.

Step 9

If the result suits you, take out the part folded like an accordion from the box and sew the folds together from below. For security, sew the folds on the sides by hand.

like this in a simple way you can quickly sew a box for rings with your own hands.

In order for the part folded like an accordion to keep its shape better, and the folds to turn out to be more dense, strengthen the strip with any cushioning material. For example, the one used for patchwork and quilting. It will give the folds additional density and volume.
In order to make such a box with your own hands, you can use any decorative box(for example, a gift) or an old wooden box of medium size.

Master Class Tatyana Churbakova (TayaChe), who participated in the 2015 contest "My Favorite Heart", took 1st place in it! In a master class published in the September issue of the All About Needlework magazine, Tatyana tells and shows how to make a cardboard and fabric box with a lid with her own hands.

And now you can see the whole process of creating a box "All you need is love" and on the pages of "Cross"! A heart-shaped box is useful for storing any small things, jewelry, valuables, and is also ideal as a gift for Valentine's Day or any other holiday, such as a birthday or March 8th.

For the box, I used:

  • Binding board 1.7 mm thick
  • Binding cardboard 0.8 mm thick
  • Thin coated cardboard
  • Linen for outdoor decoration
  • Teak printed for interior decoration
  • scrapbooking paper
  • A printout with an inscription
  • Pigment ink pads
  • Paper flowers and stamens
  • Waxed cord and cotton floss
  • Adhesive semi-pearl
  • PVA glue for carpentry
  • Clay Moment Crystal
  • masking tape
  • Stationery knife
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors
  • ruler
  • measuring tape
  • brush for glue
  • cutting mat

Creating a box (the bottom of the box)

Draw a heart of the desired shape on paper, cut out the resulting stencil. Circle and cut out a piece of cardboard 1.7 mm thick on it.

Using a tape measure, measure the perimeter of the workpiece. First, measure the length of segment AB on the right side of the heart, then on the left side of the heart, subtract one thickness of the cardboard from which you make the side of the box (I have 0.8 mm) and add 1 mm (bend tolerance).

Cut out a strip from 0.8 mm thick cardboard. The length is calculated in the course of previous measurements, the width is equal to the desired depth of the box. Now, from one of the ends of the strip, set aside the segment AB, calculated on the right side of the heart, make a scoring in this place and bend the cardboard strip.

Use masking tape to secure the fold on the outside. Along the entire underside of the cardboard strip, glue a strip of masking tape on the outside: half of the tape is on the cardboard, half is free. On the free part of the adhesive tape, make transverse cuts. The distance between the notches is 5-10 mm.

Coat the side sections of the cardboard heart with PVA glue and glue the cardboard strip around the perimeter, and wrap the cut pieces of adhesive tape on the bottom. The cardboard strip is glued not from above to the plane of the heart, but from the side, to its face, that is, as if wrapping it around.

For cardboard, it is better to use not ordinary stationery PVA, but PVA glue for carpentry. It is thicker, grips fabric and cardboard better, sticks faster and more reliably.

Glue all the seams at the bottom inside the box with glue.

Strengthen the bead joint at the top of the heart with masking tape both inside and out.

It is recommended that before starting work, check how the selected fabric behaves with glue. Take a small piece of fabric for the experiment and cardboard, try gluing the material to cardboard in order to understand how the fabric passes glue, whether stains appear, how thick a layer of glue is necessary and acceptable for gluing the selected type of fabric.

It is advisable to use materials that are not too thick, as natural as possible (synthetics stick worse), not elastic. Cotton and thin linen fabrics are preferred. Ideal for work 100% cotton, thin and dense, used for patchwork and quilting.

From the fabric chosen for the exterior, cut out a strip: the length is equal to the perimeter of the box of the box (measured with a centimeter tape), plus two centimeters for allowances, the width is equal to the height of the sides of the box from the outside, plus two or three centimeters for allowances.

Do not try to glue the entire surface of the box with glue at a time and glue the entire fabric in one fell swoop. Lubricate the cardboard should be gradually, in sections, and glue the material evenly.

Start working from the top of the heart (from the corner). How the joint is formed, I will show later, at the stage of working with the lid. While I will say that the fabric is glued around the perimeter of the side, leave equal allowances on top and bottom. From below, along the bottom, cut the allowance in the same way as the adhesive tape was cut at the assembly stage, wrap the strips of the allowance on the bottom and glue with PVA. On the upper edge of the side, wrap the allowances inward (without cuts) and glue.

A piece of cardboard with a thickness of 0.8 mm with a heart outline (use the main stencil) with double-sided tape, stick to the scrapbook paper and cut them out together.

So it turns out much smoother and more accurate than if you cut it separately, and then try to glue it together.

In this step, it is better to use double-sided tape, because PVA can warp the scrapbooking paper.

Tint the edges with a pad of pigment ink and glue to the bottom of the box from the outside with PVA glue.

Using a centimeter tape, measure the inner perimeter of the box (this will be the length of the cardboard strip) and the height of the walls inside the box of the box (subtract a couple of millimeters from it, and this will be the width of the cardboard strip).

From thin coated cardboard, cut a strip with the calculated dimensions. On it, cut out a piece from the fabric chosen for the interior decoration, adding allowances of 1 cm on each side.

Glue the fabric to the white side of the coated cardboard. Turn the top allowance along the long side to the wrong side and glue. Cut the bottom allowance. Start gluing the "lining" into the box in the same way as the outer fabric - from the top corner of the heart.

Attach the edge of the cardboard part to the corner on the left, and glue the fabric allowance on the right half of the heart.

Gradually glue the part along the inner perimeter, and when you return to the upper corner of the heart again, tuck the fabric allowance to the wrong side of the cardboard part, glue it there and glue the “lining” to the corner. Thus, a neat joint is obtained.

When gluing the “lining”, bring the incised lower fabric allowance to the bottom, and then also glue it with PVA.

According to the main stencil, cut out a piece for the bottom from thin coated cardboard. Try it on. If it does not fit well on the bottom, cut where required.

Depending on how thick the fabric is used for the inside of the box, this part may need to be trimmed 1-2mm around. That is, the main template is equal in area to the bottom of the box, but without taking into account the already glued inner walls, and they consist of coated cardboard and fabric, and can add up to 1 mm thickness to the walls. In addition, the cardboard part of the bottom will also be pasted over with a cloth, and this, depending on its thickness, can “eat” up to 1 mm more. Thus, the cardboard part of the bottom must be very carefully tried on and trimmed if necessary.

Cover the bottom part with interior fabric, cut off excess material, leaving allowances, cut the allowances, wrap them on the wrong side and glue. Glue the bottom into the box.

Creating a lid

Put the finished box of the box on a piece of paper upside down and circle it - this way you get a stencil for the top of the lid. From binding cardboard, 1.7 mm thick, cut out the part according to the stencil. From cardboard with a thickness of 0.8 mm, prepare the sides of the lid (the calculation algorithm is the same as when creating the box). The gluing procedure is also the same. The result is the same blank, only wider to put on top of the box, and the sides are lower.

Since the sides are lower and made of rather thin cardboard, they do not hold the shape of the heart very well - they deviate outward. Therefore, additionally strengthen them from the outside with a strip of cardboard 1.7 mm thick. The lid must be tried on to the box of the box, it should be easy to put on and take off.

On the office paper peach color print the inscription "All you need is love". Cut out identical hearts from this paper and scrapbooking paper.

Tear the scrap paper, fray the edges, tint with brown pigment ink. Roll the torn strip into a roll and secure with a drop of glue. Also tint the paper with the inscription with ink. Glue both layers to the lid of the box so that the inscription is in the torn strip.

From the linen used for the exterior, cut a strip. The length is equal to the perimeter of the lid on the outside, plus two centimeters for allowances. The width is equal to the height of the sides of the lid, multiplied by two, plus two centimeters for allowances and decor.

Now about the formation of the joint in the outer pasting of the box - what I missed in the description of the box. The essence is the same as with the interior decoration. Start gluing the fabric from the top corner of the heart. The allowance goes to the right side, the rest of the fabric - to the left.

Glue the material to the board in a circle and, returning to the upper corner of the heart, fold the remaining allowance and glue the fabric.

Wrap the bottom edge of the linen strip inward and glue it to the walls. On the part of the fabric that is wrapped at the bottom (bottom allowance), make cuts and glue the material to the bottom.

Wrap the top allowance on the top of the lid, form arbitrary folds and glue. Fray the edges in places, tint them and the folds with pigment ink.

From paper flowers, stamens and waxed cord form the composition. Either glue it to the lid with Moment Crystal glue, or sew it with threads directly to the cardboard.

On the right edge of the lid, use an awl to make holes and lay a decorative stitch with floss threads.

On the inside, it is better not to make knots, and glue the ends of the threads to the cardboard with PVA so that the knots do not create bulges on the inner bottom of the lid. The bottom is formed in the same way as the bottom of the box box.

Add a semi-pearl on the lid, and the heart-shaped box is ready!
