When toxicosis begins, this question worries many expectant mothers who have yet to face this problem. Women who are not expecting their first child usually know very well at what stage of pregnancy toxicosis begins.

What is toxicosis? Pregnancy is a physiological process of development of the embryo, a special state of a woman while carrying a child. Toxicosis on early dates and in a later period it is a complication of this condition. Gynecologists divide toxicosis according to the time of their occurrence into two groups:

  1. Early. May appear from 4 to 12 weeks. But this is if you count the obstetric weeks. What is obstetric week of pregnancy, more precisely, obstetric term? Gynecologists calculate it from the first day of the last menstruation. There is also the concept of "embryonic term". It is considered to be from the day of conception. But since the duration of the cycle in women can vary, fertilization occurs in the middle of the cycle, in obstetrics it is customary to take into account the obstetric term.
  2. Late. What week does toxicosis of the late period begin? It can start between 25 and 42 weeks. The onset of gestosis requires treatment.

Early stage manifestations

The manifestations of toxicosis of the early period include salivation, nausea, vomiting, polyneuritis and dermatoses.

When does toxicosis appear during pregnancy and what are its symptoms? Excessive salivation is most often caused by overexcitation of the vagus nerve, which is located in the salivary glands near the ears. Sometimes salivation is mild, then it does not cause discomfort to the pregnant woman. But sometimes (in severe cases) the amount of saliva secreted reaches one liter or more per day, then treatment with drugs or herbs is already required. But only after consultation with a specialist.

How many weeks does toxicosis and salivation begin? This symptom of early toxicosis begins from 4-6 weeks and goes away by 12 obstetric week... Drooling attacks are especially evident in the morning and evening hours, and in the daytime and at night they recede somewhat, the expectant mother feels temporary relief.

How many weeks does toxicosis and nausea begin? Vomiting is often associated with increased salivation. But this form of toxicosis in the early period can exist separately, causing a lot of trouble.

About 15% of pregnant women report vomiting. Often this symptom appears in the morning, immediately after waking up. Doctors recommend keeping a green apple on the bedside table so that you can eat a piece without getting out of bed. Then nausea and vomiting with mild toxicosis in the morning can be avoided. If early toxicosis is pronounced, then vomiting follows the expectant mother during the day. It can occur periodically. A pregnant woman reacts to strong odors. They are not always unpleasant. Before pregnancy, a woman could not pay attention to them, but due to perestroika hormonal background the body reacts in an unpredictable manner. Meals can also cause vomiting.

When does toxicosis begin in severely pregnant women in the early stages? By the beginning of the 6th week, vomiting may become uncontrollable, occur spontaneously. In this condition, there is a disorder of taste. The woman ceases to feel the taste of familiar food, the food may seem spoiled. The same is true of the sense of touch.

When toxicosis begins during pregnancy, polyneuritis can also manifest itself. This is a rather rare form of toxicosis, occurs in 2% of women. This disease consists in a gradual loss of sensitivity of the limbs and does not depend on how long the toxicosis begins. The skin on the arms and legs turns pale at first. The woman does not even have enough strength to move with her hand or foot. Sometimes polyneuritis affects the optic nerve, even less often - the swallowing. Sometimes the disease turns into paralysis for a pregnant woman. The disease often occurs at 3-6 months. But after the birth of the child, the motor function is gradually restored.

With the right approach to treatment, the disease slowly but surely recedes. An exception is damage to the optic nerve. If treatment is not started on time, polyneuritis can lead to optic nerve atrophy. There are ways to prevent polyneuritis:

  1. 1. Eliminate hypothermia of the body.
  2. 2. Try to avoid infectious diseases. Do not delay the disease until complications occur.
  3. 3. It is necessary to eat foods that remove toxins from the body. And if polyneuritis has already been diagnosed, then you should do therapeutic exercises and take a massage course after consulting a specialist.

The onset of polyneuritis can be transferred in a mild form, if you follow the doctor's instructions.

Under the influence of hormonal changes, a pregnant woman may experience heartburn from the second month of pregnancy. Heartburn is also a symptom of early toxicosis.

How long it takes to see a doctor if early toxicosis appears. If you vomit more than 6 times a day, it can lead to dehydration. Therefore, it is worth contacting immediately. And if the symptoms are present, but do not harm the health of the pregnant woman, then the gynecologist should be told about this ailment at the next scheduled examination.

Traditional methods of treatment

When does toxicosis begin? To prevent heartburn and other symptoms of early toxicosis, you can drink lemon water from the first weeks. Mint drops, which can be purchased at the pharmacy, are great for heartburn. If there is mint herb at home, then you can drink tea in the evening, but do not get carried away with it. Mint has a mild calming effect, relieves fatigue, relieves nausea. If a woman has a cold and has a sore throat, then mint softens sore throat... Mint herb is a real salvation from early toxicosis.

Buckwheat porridge for breakfast will also bring relief from this ailment.

From vomiting in a mild form, a woman can be saved by chamomile flower tea, drunk in bed before getting up.

Tea made with lemon or orange juice will also have a positive effect and relieve nausea. It is better to drink the liquid chilled. Lemon juice can also be added to the water. And the amount of fluid you drink needs to be reduced.

Lemon not only perfectly relieves nausea and vomiting, but helps fight increased salivation. You should not drink a lot with this ailment, but you can moisten your lips, mouth and throat with lemon water several times a day.

If lemon did not help, and early toxicosis of pregnant women causes discomfort, then you can buy yarrow herb at the pharmacy. 2 tbsp. l. dry grass, you need to pour 0.5 liters of boiling water, leave for half an hour and drink 1/4 cup 3 times a day before meals.

Signs of late toxicosis

In the second half of pregnancy, toxicosis can also begin. Late toxicosis is usually called gestosis. They are pathological in nature and require treatment, sometimes stationary.

How long can a late stage toxicosis begin? In the most unpleasant scenario, edema can appear already from the 20th week of pregnancy. The appearance of edema should be a signal and reason for contacting a gynecologist. If they are not removed, the condition of the pregnant woman will become worse and worse, which will lead to inpatient treatment, premature delivery, and in the worst case scenario, fetal death.

What weeks does late stage toxicosis begin? In women, preeclampsia appears only towards the end of pregnancy. What late toxicosis? Doctors distinguish a triad of symptoms: increased arterial pressure, the appearance of edema and protein in the urine. But many times, some symptoms of gestosis do not manifest themselves for a long time or are absent.

It is not at all necessary that with the onset of pregnancy, a woman will certainly begin to vomit. And it's not even a fact that nausea will appear at a later date (we really don't want this). However, about half of women start to vomit early in their pregnancy.

May gain momentum any of the weeks in the first trimester. Very often, it is due to the appearance of nausea and a state of general malaise, along with a delay in the next menstruation, that a woman begins to suspect that she may have become pregnant.

The first signs of toxicosis in some women may appear as early as 3-4 weeks, when pregnancy may not even be confirmed yet. But the reviews of those who experienced this unpleasant phenomenon during the period of bearing a baby indicate that in most cases toxicosis begins on average from 7-8 weeks. In general, early toxicosis occurs in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and usually manifests itself:

  • feeling unwell;
  • depressed state;
  • drooling;
  • nausea;
  • vomiting.

You may experience weakness, drowsiness, irritability. On top of that, you may even experience weight loss. This sickness is most pronounced in the first trimester, and for many women it poisons the joy of the first weeks of pregnancy.

You will probably notice that you feel sick at a certain time, usually in the morning - morning sickness of pregnant women has even become a proverb. But there may be evening and round-the-clock nausea. How long will it last?

By 13-14 weeks, toxicosis usually subsides, since the level of hormones by this time decreases. But some poor things suffer until the very birth.

Why some women suffer from toxicosis, while others manage to survive the entire pregnancy without it, scientists cannot give an exact answer. Meanwhile, there are several versions about the causes of the development of toxicosis. The most likely among them, experts consider hormonal changes (the level and ratio of hormones in a woman's body inevitably change with the onset of pregnancy), as well as psycho emotional condition future mother. Some women initially set themselves up for the fact that they will be sick and vomit from the first days after conception, and many are very worried about the course of pregnancy and the development of the baby. Among the reasons for the onset of toxicosis, doctors also call the effect of a wide variety of adverse factors on the body of the expectant mother, genetic tendency, complication of pregnancy by the presence of chronic diseases, and others.

Toxicosis in different pregnant women manifests itself in an unequal degree. Mild attacks of nausea and vomiting do not pose a threat to mom and baby. Moreover, there is even an opinion that they are in some way useful, since they protect the mother and child from the potential harm of various substances. However, if the toxicosis is so pronounced that a woman cannot eat food, vomits repeatedly and significantly loses weight, then most likely she will have to go to the hospital and undergo treatment. At least, you must be sure to be under the supervision of a doctor! Therefore, contact your gynecologist if pregnancy is accompanied by severe toxicosis.

I would like to reassure those expectant mothers who are faced with this phenomenon: doctors assure that as soon as the process of formation of the placenta is completed, early toxicosis will disappear. Usually, from about 12 weeks, the symptoms of toxicosis begin to subside, completely disappearing by the 16th week of pregnancy.

Meanwhile, any woman carrying a child may develop late toxicosis, even if the first half of pregnancy proceeded completely safely.

Late toxicosis occurs in the second half of pregnancy (), causing problems in the body such as:

  • swelling (dropsy);
  • protein content in urine (nephropathy);
  • , (preeclampsia);
  • visual impairment, loss of consciousness (eclampsia).

These are all successive stages of one pathological process.

Late toxicosis is also called gestosis. The earlier its symptoms appear (for example, at 24-26 weeks), the more severe its course and the worse the prognosis.

- This serious illness that needs to be treated because it can harm both you and your baby. Despite the high level of development of modern medicine, the causes of late toxicosis remain a mystery. There are only theories of its origin. So, many scientists suggest that the cause of late toxicosis is serious damage to blood vessels, immune imbalance, sleep disturbance, a short interval between childbirth, and much more.

Especially for- Ksenia Dakhno

After conception, a woman does not immediately understand what happened. The patient will be able to confirm the pregnancy that has happened only after a delay, when the express test will be able to determine an interesting position. Many mothers are interested in when toxicosis begins after conception, because this condition sometimes occurs before a delay, and from its symptoms one can guess about an interesting situation long before the test strip dispels these doubts.

A special perception of odors is the first sign of the onset of pregnancy.

Toxicosis of pregnant women, by definition, is a painful intoxication condition associated with exposure to toxic substances of endogenous origin. This is a fairly common condition in women in a position, which is accompanied by nausea and vomiting. This condition occurs against the background of intoxication associated with poisoning with substances formed in the mother's body during fetal development.

Experts distinguish several toxicological degrees:

  • At the first, nausea and vomiting are observed, no more than 5 cases per day, while a woman loses no more than three kilograms in weight;
  • In the second degree, symptoms of vomiting appear more often (up to 10 episodes), and mom can lose weight by 4-5 kg;
  • With the third degree of toxicosis, emetic attacks begin more often, disturb already 25 times a day, and weight loss can reach 10 kg or even more. Against the background of such a strong toxicosis, signs of an increase in heart rate and an increase in temperature begin to appear.

Also, against the background of toxicosis, other symptoms develop, including material exchange, cardiovascular or nervous system disorders.

Symptoms of toxicosis

After fertilization, the mother's body immediately begins to rebuild to a new mode of functioning, which is why the girl has uncomfortable toxic feelings. They usually begin with a feeling of unreasonable irritability for any reason and without it. A woman quickly loses her temper, scandals over little things, can cry for no reason, etc. There is a noticeable increase in salivation, during the day the girl is worried about severe drowsiness and weakness. In the morning, there is often a lack of appetite and nausea and vomiting, which causes the patient to lose weight.

Taste preferences also change noticeably. In rare cases, mummies have early toxicological signs associated with asthma and dermatosis, softening of bone matter, or frequent seizures caused by calcium metabolism disorders. Contrary to popular belief, the severity and symptoms of toxicosis do not depend on the baby of which gender the girl is carrying. Sometimes toxic signs can occur even in cases where the pregnancy freezes. It is possible to identify this condition by the absence of a fetal heartbeat.

Theory of the development of toxicosis

With the help of a thermometer, the fertile period is determined

Question: when toxicosis begins in pregnant women, many patients are worried. Above, we have superficially examined the likely manifestations of such a condition. The presence of all the described signs is not necessary, each organism is individual, therefore the toxic signs will be different. And much depends on the degree of toxicosis of pregnant women. Experts still have many questions regarding the nature of the occurrence of such a pronounced state in many mothers.

In general, doctors associate the deterioration in the general state of health with the processes of implantation or placental formation. In the course of these processes, material exchange products are released into the patient's body, which has a toxic effect. The hormonal transformations that have appeared, which cause an exacerbation of the olfactory and tactile centers, have no less effect. This is the reason for the onset of attacks of aversion to certain smells or foods, as well as nausea.

  • There is another theory according to which toxic symptoms may appear during pregnancy due to an organic reaction to the fetus.
  • It's just that the mother's body perceives the embryo as a foreign organism, especially often this happens in patients who conceived by accident, did not plan a pregnancy.
  • The immune structures start the processes of getting rid of the foreign aggressor, which continue until the body gets used to the new tenant.

There is no exact data as to how many days after conception the toxic processes begin and how to treat them - as a norm or pathology. But according to statistics, about 85% of mothers suffer from various kinds of toxic manifestations in the period from 5-8 weeks to the end of the fourth month of gestation. A separate type is the toxicosis of early and late dates, which are somewhat less common and proceed according to a slightly different schedule

When does toxicosis begin early

Each organism is individual, therefore, it is impossible to say exactly when toxicosis appears after conception. There are limits of the norm, about which it was written above, but they do not always coincide with real clinical cases. The onset of toxic symptoms depends on many factors. Some girls completely lack any ailments and discomfort, while others, having become pregnant, experience all the delights of toxicosis, almost all of their gestation.

Normally, toxicosis of pregnant women should begin in the first or second week of the second month of pregnancy. But there are times when the characteristic ailments appear earlier - about a week and a half before the delay. Quite often, such an early toxicosis occurs in patients who are carrying multiple pregnancy... In such cases, toxic manifestations appear not only earlier, but also last much longer. Some patients say that they felt unwell and nausea just a few days after ovulation, but experts explain these sensations as an organic reaction to the fertilization and implantation processes that have taken place.

When gestosis can begin

If you feel unwell, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

So, when toxicosis occurs in the early stages, we found out. However, there is another type of similar condition that occurs in the second half of gestation. Such toxicosis is called gestosis and it occurs in the last two months of gestation. Therefore, it is almost impossible to say on what day gestosis will begin. Gestosis is rather difficult and needs compulsory medical supervision. Sometimes a patient with severe gestosis is admitted to a hospital.

Why late toxicosis occurs is difficult to say unequivocally. Experts say that abortions, which the mother had previously done, as well as miscarriages in the history of the pregnant woman, contribute to the appearance of this condition. Also, gestosis can occur in a mother who constantly does not get enough sleep and is in a stressful state. Endocrine pathology, the presence of unhealthy habits or mature age patients over 35 years old. Also, gestosis occurs in cases where too little time has passed after the previous birth and the maternal body simply did not have time to recover.

Causes of the onset of toxicosis

Experts explain the occurrence of toxicological conditions during gestation by the individual characteristics of the mother's body, hormonal changes, the presence of pathological factors and stresses, various external influences, but to say exactly which reason was the triggering factor in each specific case, almost impossible. But in general, the occurrence of such conditions is caused by several factors.

  1. Change in hormonal status. After fertilization, the cell is implanted into the uterine cavity. When the development of the embryo begins, hCG and glycoprotein are released into the patient's bloodstream.
  2. There is also an increase in estrogen and progesterone hormone, and by the 10-week period, the content of hCG in the bloodstream reaches its maximum possible values.
  3. Due to the presence of chorionic hormone in the urine and blood, the fact of the completed conception can be confirmed. The body reacts extremely sharply to such a sharp increase in hormones, therefore, to say exactly on what day after conception toxic symptoms will appear is quite difficult even for the most experienced specialist with long experience. After all, pregnant processes are purely individual
  4. In addition, an emotional state can also cause toxicosis, especially in cases where a pregnant girl did not plan to conceive and does not know how she will act next.

Excessive excitability and anxiety, a feeling of fear and stress - all this provokes the release of stress hormones into the bloodstream, the hormonal status changes again, to which the body again reacts with toxic reactions. Therefore, if toxicosis has begun, mommy first of all needs to calm down and just wait out the unpleasant symptoms. When the psycho-emotional state normalizes, then toxicosis will begin to bother much less, and the state of health will improve.

Hereditary factors

Most suffer from over-susceptibility

Heredity is also of great importance in the development of toxicological conditions in pregnant women. Depending on how long after conception signs of toxicosis appeared in the mother, toxicosis will appear in the daughter at about the same time. If a woman went through the entire pregnancy without having a clue of what toxicosis is and without experiencing its symptoms, then it is highly likely that her daughter will carry a child with the same ease.

Gynecologists warn that the approximate timing of the onset of toxic manifestations does not always coincide, because some mothers in the first weeks carry a baby without any uncomfortable sensations and ailments, and in the second half of the term they face severe preeclampsia. Often, experts note the presence of a certain relationship of toxic reactions with the mother's lifestyle, the presence of unhealthy habits and the patient's diet.

Some patients wonderingly ask gynecologists why they do not have toxicosis at all, they worry that this is not normal, that there are some problems with the baby, the pregnancy has frozen, etc. Do not worry too much about the absence of toxicosis, because this speaks of absolute health future mom... There is no need to look for a pathology in the absence of toxicosis. It's just that the mother's body calmly and without stress rebuilt to a new mode of functionality and coped well with the increased load, tuning into a new state without nauseous reactions and other disorders.

Danger of toxicosis

Many doctors believe that toxicosis can be extremely dangerous, and toxic reactions in the early stages are less dangerous than gestosis in the last trimester. Early toxicosis is characterized by a sudden onset and an equally unexpected end. If the pregnancy develops according to the normal scenario, then the recurrence of toxic symptoms is excluded. But sometimes, under the influence of specific factors, gestosis develops, which has more striking manifestations:

  • The patient also has an exacerbated sense of smell and taste;
  • Irritability and tearfulness appear, constantly nauseous;
  • In urine, the content of protein fractions increases;
  • Blood pressure begins to jump;
  • Hyperexia appears.

Gestosis can seriously complicate the further course of pregnancy, therefore, requires mandatory medical intervention. It is necessary to eliminate the factors provoking preeclampsia. For each patient, an individual therapeutic scheme is selected, involving diet therapy and correction of vital functions. Depending on the level of toxic complications, the degree of complexity of gestosis is also determined, and, at the most severe degrees, irreparable may happen. Therefore, if toxic signs appear, an urgent need to consult a gynecologist.

Prevention

To facilitate the course of pregnancy, mothers need to take care of the prevention of toxicosis. To do this, of course, you need to give up unhealthy habits and start eating right. Mom must quit smoking, give up alcohol, fatty and spicy foods. In pregnant women, as you know, the sense of smell is exacerbated. In order not to irritate the pungent smell, you need to eliminate its probable sources in advance. For example, stop using perfumes, air fresheners, etc. If a negative reaction occurs to certain products, then you just need to not buy them.

Mom should have a good rest and not overwork. Walking before bed and a full 8-hour night's rest will ensure a normal state, and not only physiological, but also psychoemotional. Correction of the diet also implies a change in diet, which should become fractional. With frequent and abundant meals, nausea will decrease, heartburn will disappear, etc. Moreover, small portions and a fractional diet will help to avoid excessive weight gain.

It is recommended to take vitamin complexes, which will provide a full supply of essential trace elements and minerals, vitamins necessary for the fetus. Such complexes will help restore the balance of trace elements in the mother's body, restore strength and improve well-being.

The main thing is not to tune in to the upcoming toxicological torment, which does not arise for everyone. It is likely that such an unpleasant condition will bypass you, because each pregnancy is individual.

At least every second expectant mother is familiar with the state of toxicosis. The appearance of nausea, a change in taste preferences, hypersensitivity sense of smell - this is how toxicosis begins in pregnant women. Today we will look at the signs of toxicosis and find out what toxicosis is in the early stages and how to deal with it.

Toxicosis on the way - the time of the onset of the disease

The manifestations of an ailment called toxicosis occur completely spontaneously. Negative symptoms can bypass pregnancy altogether - many women have never experienced nausea during the entire period of bearing a child. But, nevertheless, more than half of expectant mothers learn all the "charms" of toxicosis in the early stages.

It is difficult to unequivocally answer the question of when toxicosis begins during pregnancy - the timing of toxic manifestations is purely individual.

According to medical statistics, there are several periods of toxicosis. Among them there are 4 main ones:

  1. Before pregnancy is confirmed- a woman in a position may begin to vomit even before two strips appear on the test, a day or two before the delay of the next menstruation (26-35 day of the cycle);
  2. In the first weeks of pregnancy- early toxicosis often follows a pregnant woman from 4-5 weeks interesting situation, especially if the firstborn is expected. Often, a state of general malaise during this period is a consequence of hormonal changes in the body;
  3. From the second month of pregnancy- in most cases, symptoms of toxicosis in women begin to gain momentum precisely from this period (7-8 weeks of pregnancy) and last until the first screening;
  4. Late toxicosis- called gestosis, occurs in last trimester pregnancy is considered a serious complication and requires close medical supervision.

Note! Depending on which week the toxicosis begins, the number of fetuses developing in the uterus can also be assumed. In women carrying twins, vivid manifestations of toxicosis can make themselves felt as early as the third or fourth week of pregnancy.

Signs of the onset of toxicosis in pregnant women

It is generally accepted that the main signs of toxicosis in a pregnant woman are the daily urge to vomit and sudden nausea. But in addition to these phenomena, there are many more reactions of a woman's body to a pathological condition - toxicosis. The most common manifestations of the disease with an approximate description of the possible severity can be found in the table.

Table of the main symptoms of toxicosis

Important! Toxicosis is a medical diagnosis, which is established by a doctor based on the complaints of a pregnant woman, with the help of tests and laboratory studies. To clarify the presence of the disease, factors are taken into account: the level of protein and bilirubin in the blood, the presence / absence of acetone in the urine, the amount of electrolytes in the blood, the severity of dehydration of the woman's body, etc.

Symptom The severity of toxicosis
1 (weak) 2 (moderate) 3 (heavy)
Nausea easy significant constant
Vomit up to 2 times / day 3-5 times / day 6-11 times / day
Decreased appetite lowered significantly reduced missing
Increased heart rate up to 90 bpm up to 100 bpm over 100 bpm
Decrease in pressure up to 120/110 mm Hg up to 110/100 mm Hg less than 100 mm Hg
Food retention held partially withheld not withheld
Weight loss up to 3 kg up to 5 kg more than 5 kg
Stool changes normal 1 time in 3 days missing more than 3 days
Dizziness seldom partially expressed significantly expressed
Increase in body temperature to 37.1 - 38.0 ° C missing seldom often seen

Toxicosis can manifest itself in several forms, from mild to severe, and each of them is characterized by certain signs:

  • Weak toxic manifestations- aversion to odors, slight nausea after waking up, increased salivation, mild urge to vomit (without vomiting itself or up to 2 times / day).
  • Moderate toxic manifestations- nausea during the day, vomiting 3-5 times a day, dizziness, feeling unwell, many odors provoke an attack of lightheadedness.
  • Severe toxic manifestations- vomiting more than 6 times a day, low blood pressure, fainting, complete lack of appetite, significant weight loss, signs of dehydration.

On a note! In most cases, toxicosis of the first trimester of pregnancy does not become severe and does not pose a danger to the woman and the fetus. But if the manifestations of the disease cause depression, exhaustion, weakness, complete breakdown, the intervention of a doctor is simply necessary.

How long does toxicosis last?

Early toxicosis usually goes away by 12-13 weeks of pregnancy. Even with small manifestations of toxicosis, the obstetrician is obliged to send the expectant mother for an unscheduled test - urine, general and biochemical blood tests. With a mild course of the disease, home bed rest is shown and the observation of a doctor from antenatal clinic... 2 and 3 degrees of toxicosis require the placement of a pregnant woman for treatment in a hospital.

4 causes of toxicosis in a pregnant woman

Despite numerous studies, medicine has not been able to find the true basis of "pregnant" toxicosis. There are only theories on the basis of which it can be assumed why women develop toxicosis after conception.

Hormonal theory

Rapidly progressive toxicosis can be a reaction of the body to large-scale hormonal changes, which begins simultaneously with the appearance of a new organ - the placenta. At the peak of the content of hCG in the blood, the severity of toxicosis also reaches its peak. Especially this moment is felt by mothers with multiple pregnancies.

Hereditary theory

Toxicosis can be transmitted "by inheritance" - this idea is taken as the basis of the hereditary (otherwise - genetic) theory. If in female relatives all pregnancies were complicated by toxicological manifestations, then, with a high probability, this fate awaits the pregnant woman.

Immune theory

This theory considers the situation of how toxicosis begins in a pregnant woman due to the production of antibodies by the body against intrauterine life, which is perceived as foreign tissue.

Psychogenic theory

According to this hypothesis, the physical condition of the expectant mother may deteriorate due to the constant feeling negative emotions, excitement, fear, worries, fears for the life and health of the unborn child.

A small note from my mother about the time of the onset of toxicosis and its possible manifestations during pregnancy:

The main ways to combat the manifestations of toxicosis

Means How to apply
Lemon wedges Lemon quickly relieves an attack of nausea, improves health. Add fresh fruit wedges to tea / boiled water (juice can be squeezed out) or sucked in sugar.
Fresh tomatoes Help to cope with nausea, effective in the absence of appetite. As a snack, you need to eat 1-2 large fleshy fruits, it is possible as part of a vegetable salad.
Rosehip infusion Useful for severe manifestations of toxicosis: low-grade fever, dizziness, loss of strength. 3-4 tablespoons rose hips need to be poured with 0.5 liters of boiling water, let the broth brew until it cools. Take as a vitamin cocktail, sweeten with honey if desired.
A pineapple Fresh and canned pineapple has a beneficial effect on frequent vomiting and regular nausea. Consume as an independent product, 30-50 g during the day.
Mint Mint green tea with lemon balm improves the condition of a pregnant woman with toxicosis. The drink should not be drunk hot, but chilled to room temperature, and ideally cold. Refreshing menthol mints are also good for excruciating nausea.

What else can you do to improve your well-being with toxicosis?

More, which will help you to eliminate all the severity of manifestations:

Drink more

Drinking a glass of water immediately after waking up in the morning will save you from nausea for at least the first half of the day. Drink during the day those drinks that you like - mineral water, juices, green tea, fruit drink. Even if a pregnant woman has edema, the amount of fluid should not be less than 2-2.5 liters per day.

Less jerky movements

The actions and movements of the expectant mother from the moment of clarifying their position should become calm, as smooth as possible. No sudden getting out of bed! Make it a rule to "fly", do not rush anywhere, and your health will be at the highest level.

Long rest and sleep

Daily night sleep should be at least 8-10 hours. For working pregnant women, this can only mean one thing - to go to bed early in order to properly gain strength by the next morning. During the day, take 5 minutes of rest every couple of hours, especially if your work involves being at the computer in the office.

Normalization of nutrition

For the sake of your own health, it is worth taking care of good nutrition. Dairy products (yogurt, kefir, cheese, cottage cheese), red meat, fish, fresh fruits, fiber-rich vegetables will cover the daily need for calories and nutrients, thereby strengthening the body's strength.

How to survive toxicosis - life hacks from mom:

Prevention of toxicosis in the expectant mother

To minimize the risk of toxicosis, or even avoid its occurrence, even at the stage of preparation for pregnancy, try to take care of your own health, adhere to the correct lifestyle and get rid of bad habits.

What can be done to prevent the onset of toxicosis:

  • alcohol, cigarettes, fast food should disappear from the life of the expectant mother for at least 9 months;
  • down with everything that causes pungent odors - household chemicals, perfumes, even your favorite coffee beans can wait a couple of trimesters for the benefit of well-being;
  • overwork is the enemy of women's health, especially during pregnancy. Healthy sleep, daily walks in the fresh air, and a quiet pastime with the family are put in the first place. Strengthen physical and moral balance during pregnancy, try to rest more, think about pleasant things;
  • avoid stuffy public transport during rush hour - it's better to organize a walk once again;
  • fractional nutrition with early toxicosis can reduce all unpleasant symptoms to naught. Eating every two hours reduces nausea, and the small portion is easy to digest, eliminating heartburn. With a full, but fractional nutrition during pregnancy, there will be no problems with excess weight;
  • The mint ingredient is one of the most effective and proven remedies for nausea. Fresh mint leaves can be brewed into tea, or simply chewed when you feel unwell. Sugar-free mint lollipops will also save the situation, but it is better to postpone the mint gum - it provokes salivation and can cause stomach cramps;
  • multivitamins with a high selenium content also have a healing effect in toxicosis. The necessary complex of minerals, vitamins and trace elements with regular use will reduce the manifestations of toxicosis to a minimum.

P.S. About how you can find in a special section of the site. Here we have listed the main existing methods.

No matter how desirable pregnancy is, it can be overshadowed by toxicosis (gestosis). This condition is characterized by bouts of nausea and vomiting, weakness, darkening of the eyes, and sometimes loss of consciousness. It can go away in a couple of weeks, or it can stretch out over a long period of time.

Sometimes nausea can be so frequent and severe that it becomes problematic for the expectant mother even to take pills, for example, Duphaston or Magne B6, which are prescribed to many pregnant women.

In Soviet times, there was a practice of terminating pregnancy if a woman vomited all the time for a long period of time. Now such methods of getting rid of toxicosis, fortunately, are no longer used, and studying the question of the origin of gestosis and the invention of new methods of dealing with it helps many expectant mothers to experience this period easier.

Causes of toxicosis during pregnancy

The question of the causes of the development of toxicosis has not yet been fully understood. But doctors have every reason to believe that its manifestation and intensity directly depend on the amount of toxins in the woman's body.

However, there are other versions of the appearance of nausea and vomiting in the first weeks of pregnancy, so it makes sense to list them as possible culprits of gestosis:

  • The reaction of the mother's body to hormonal imbalance. However, this theory cannot answer two questions: 1) why does the reaction occur only in the first weeks, if hormonal changes occur in the female body during the entire pregnancy? 2) Why do not all women undergo such a reaction, because all hormonal disruption occurs to the same extent?
  • Psychological rejection of the new position, subconscious unwillingness to become a mother. But this version also has contradictions, because then it is completely unclear why severe toxicosis occurs in women who deliberately planned pregnancy and in whom conception occurred only after serious efforts.

There is an opinion among the people that by the presence and intensity of toxicosis during pregnancy, it is possible to determine who will be: a boy or a girl. But doctors are skeptical about this theory of early nausea.

When does toxicosis begin?

There are women who say that their nausea and vomiting began from the first days of conception. This is, of course, impossible. In the first week after fertilization hCG level is still so small that it cannot cause such a strong intoxication in the body.

Usually, expectant mothers begin to feel the first signs of gestosis at 3-4 weeks from conception. It starts out differently for everyone. Someone experiences a feeling of nausea, which after a few days develops into vomiting.

In someone, the intoxication of the body is expressed immediately in the appearance of vomiting, which becomes more intense over time. From whatever week early toxicosis begins during pregnancy, should alert if from the first day it manifested itself in the form of frequent uncontrolled vomiting.

When does it end?

The end of gestosis even in the same woman with different pregnancies can happen in different time... Most often, a pattern is observed: the more intense the manifestations of vomiting, the longer the toxicosis lasts.

So, in women who experienced only a feeling of nausea and could eat more or less normally, preeclampsia lasts about 3-4 weeks and disappears without a trace. The situation is different for those expectant mothers who were forced to spend all day in the toilet and did not have the opportunity to eat normally.

In such cases, toxicosis is prolonged and begins to gradually recede only by 12 weeks. With a severe degree, toxicosis can completely end only at 15 - 16 weeks.

Signs of toxicosis:

  • Nausea, which is more intense in the morning and subsides in the evening.
  • Vomiting, beginning immediately upon awakening and almost completely disappearing during sleep.
  • Reaction to odors.
  • Dizziness and weakness. Often this condition occurs when a woman is in a stuffy room or long time stays in a motionless position.
  • Aversion to certain types of food.

The severity of toxicosis

Each organism may react differently to the onset of pregnancy. Someone has only mild nausea in the morning, and someone is admitted to the hospital due to incessant vomiting. Gynecologists distinguish three degrees of severity of toxicosis:

I degree

Gestosis is poorly expressed, nausea, a reaction to some odors and vomiting, which occurs no more than 5 times a day, is determined. At the same time, the general condition of the pregnant woman can be assessed as satisfactory. A woman can eat and drink water.

II degree

A woman is disgusted with many types of food, a large number of odors invariably make her sick. Traveling in transport is complicated by vomiting, but vomiting itself, on average, occurs no more than 10 times per day. A pregnant woman may have some difficulty in consuming food and water.

III degree

The woman's condition begins to instill fears among doctors. The patient has bouts of nausea even with the mere sight of any food. Vomiting occurs up to 25 times a day. A pregnant woman cannot eat; breaks in food can be up to two days.

It becomes impossible even to drink water, which threatens life-threatening condition - dehydration. The patient is only relieved when she is lying down.

If the toxicosis takes on a protracted nature, then after 4 - 5 weeks it becomes difficult for a woman to move long distances on her own.

Why is severe preeclampsia dangerous?

If toxicosis in the first trimester becomes painful, deprives the expectant mother of the opportunity to eat and consume enough water, then doctors must take emergency measures to stabilize her condition. Severe gestosis leads to the following negative consequences:

  1. Weight loss. With grade III toxicosis, a woman can lose up to 10 kg of weight in 3 months.
  2. Decrease in the level of hemoglobin in the blood.
  3. Increased tone of the uterus. Frequent gagging causes excessive tension in the abdominal muscles. The result is a rocking-like effect of the press. This tones the uterus and creates a threat of termination of pregnancy.
  4. Danger of dehydration. The water is odorless and does not disgust a pregnant woman. However, liquid entering the stomach will still provoke vomiting.
  5. The appearance of vitamin deficiency. Due to the impossibility of normal food intake, the body cannot replenish its reserves of vitamins and minerals.

How to deal with toxicosis in the early stages, what to do?

When signs of toxicosis appear during early pregnancy, the question invariably arises: how to deal with it? The gynecologist can make recommendations to consume certain foods, prescribe treatment, or place a woman in a hospital.

Changing your daily diet

If gestosis manifests itself only in bouts of nausea and rare cases of vomiting, then the doctor will recommend including in the daily diet foods that will be easily absorbed by the intestines: yoghurts, kefir, vegetables, fruits.

Sometimes the pregnant woman herself determines what kind of food helps her to cope with the feeling of nausea. So, many are saved by mint sweets, lemons, oranges, apple juices, pickled cucumbers, sauerkraut.

Taking medications

Medicines in this case are designed to cleanse the woman's body of toxins and toxins, as well as replenish the water-salt balance, which undergoes significant changes with constant vomiting.

For this purpose, the gynecologist prescribes Enterosgel and Regidron (less often Cerucal). In a few days of taking these drugs, grade II toxicosis disappears.

  • True, both Enterosgel and Regidron taste such that their use can provoke a gag reflex.

Hospital treatment

With a severe degree of toxicosis, when dehydration becomes dangerous for the life of a pregnant woman, it is important to be placed in a hospital, where the patient will be prescribed intravenous droppers with glucose and other drugs that replenish the lack of fluid and nutrients in the body.

This usually does not stop vomiting. A woman can still not leave the toilet for hours, just now her body is forced to feed and saturate with a sufficient amount of liquid.

Prevention

Since the causes of toxicosis are not known reliably, it is difficult to judge the measures of its prevention. It is also difficult to predict whether carrying a baby will be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, or expectant mother lucky enough to have a pregnancy without toxicosis.

Until now, scientists have not been able to prove that pre-vitamin therapy or a visit to a psychologist is guaranteed to relieve morning sickness, so today gestosis is treated symptomatically and is not prevented in any way.
