Each family has its own New Year traditions... AND Christmas decorations other holiday decorations have always been a part of them. It is a well-known fact that handmade decorative elements add to the New Year's atmosphere an absolutely indescribable special flair and comfort. Today we will be making not only a beautiful, but also a very practical piece of the thematic style: a rigid "skirt" for a Christmas tree that will hide a cross or a pot. It can be made to fit a Christmas tree of any size: from outdoor to tabletop. Children can participate in the creation. The first 2 points further may seem complicated and large to you, but in fact they involve elementary actions - getting a symmetrical "flower" from a square of paper.

Imagine it completely in white

To you will be required:
- Thin cardboard or stiff paper (for example, from a brown paper bag);
- Transparent adhesive tape;
- Sharp scissors;
- Marker, pen or pencil;
- A large piece (or several - they can be sewn) of dense fabric (optimally colored ornamental felt) with a non-peeling edge: for the choice of color, see the hint below (the size of a piece of fabric for a tabletop tree, for example, 46x46 cm, for a floor size, a much larger size is needed );
- A large piece of dense white fabric with a non-peeling edge (for a tabletop tree, again 46x46 cm);
- Chalk;
- Fabric glue or hot glue in the gun;
- A plate for glue (disposable paper is better - plastic glue can corrode);
- Wooden toothpick or better fork;
- Special sticky glue for rhinestones, sequins and other things (or hot glue again);
- Small round mirrors, or foil, or any suitable reflective surface (in any case, over time, the "skirt" will pick up sparkle from toys, so you won't need a lot of reflective circles);
- Large needle;
- Thin yarn, either floss or round braid to match the color of the fabric.

The idea is that the "skirt" repeats the natural outlines and colors, so your choice:
- You can take a white base and paste over it with white circles (a sketched snowdrift, sparkling in the light falling on it), IMHO the most successful option;
- Brown base with white circles (ground covered with sparkling snow);
- A blue base with white circles, like here - a classic Russian New Year's combination, like on Santa Claus's caftan, but it doesn't look too natural;
- A green or red base (or checkered green-red) with white circles is a Christmas themed combination if you usually decorate a Christmas tree in a foreign style.

1. You need a large sheet of thin cardboard or thick paper... So if you use paper bag, cut it so that it turns into a sheet the right size... Tape the sheets together if they are not large enough. The size of the sheet depends on the radius of the circle that you need for the "skirt" (the side of the square sheet is equal to two radii). You can just estimate the radius by eye or - even easier - attach a soft centimeter or ruler to the desired top point of the "skirt", and the bottom one by pulling a centimeter or drawing a ruler at an angle to the place where you want to see the bottom edge of the "skirt". Add a couple of centimeters to this. The final number - the radius - multiply by two and get the size of the side of the square.

2. Fold the square in half diagonally (for example, from the upper left corner to the lower right corner) to make a triangle, fold the triangle in half to make a smaller triangle, and finally again to make an even smaller but now right-angled triangle. In this case, the vertex of the last two triangles should be in the center of the original square. Draw an even, shallow semicircle closer to the base of the right-angled triangle (do not draw far from the edge - do not greatly reduce the radius of the future "skirt"). Cut off the triangle along the marked line.

3. Cut the top of the triangle in a semicircle - this will be the hole for the tree trunk. Expand the resulting "flower" and, following one - any - of the folds, make a cut with scissors, getting an open edge for easy and simple putting on the skirt under the tree.

4. Iron the selected fabric if necessary.

5. Place the cut-out flower-shaped base on the fabric, circle it with chalk. Don't worry too much about perfectly straight edges, as these will be covered up later by sticky circles.

6. As with the base flower, cut a hole in the center of the flower from the fabric and cut a straight line from the side of the flower from the edge to the center.

8. Cut these strips into squares. Then from 2-3 squares at once, superimposed one on top of another, cut out circles.

9. Squeeze the fabric glue onto a suitable base (or just use a hot glue gun). Using a brush or toothpick / fork, apply regular glue to the circles - a little at a time - and glue the circles along the bottom edge of the "skirt". Remember that certain types of adhesives should only be used in well-ventilated areas.

10. Let the circles overlap each other: this is a better imitation of snow. Place the circles somewhere larger, somewhere smaller, repeating the natural shapes of snowdrifts. Scatter a few pieces without symmetry throughout the rest of the "skirt" for the tree.

11. When you are happy with the "snow", add light-reflecting circles from the selected material over the entire surface of the "skirt": a little, using the same special sticky glue. The reflections from them will help the white circles look more like snow.

12. To complete the masking "skirt" for the tree cross, you can overcast both edges of the side cut with overlock stitch. Optional - just a decorative element, but it will stand out on a more natural "skirt", just keep that in mind.

Ready! Now you do not have to mask the cross or the pot of the Christmas tree with cotton wool, rags, toys, cones and so on every hour for an hour. If the "skirt" does not stand rigidly by itself - try it right away - you can stick it on the same template made of stiff paper or cardboard. The dimensions of the "skirt" can be changed by tightening its side edges more tightly and putting them on top of each other.

There is no compromise in beauty matters. Therefore, if you want every detail of your New Year's interior harmoniously complemented the other, pay attention to the stand for the Christmas tree. Saw off a piece about 30 cm in height from the stump. Choose a wood bit for the drill equal to the circumference of the trunk of your faux spruce and drill a hole in the center of the hemp to the desired depth. It must be perpendicular to the floor so that the tree stands upright. Then apply glue to the bark, sprinkle with glitter and let it dry to create a snow effect.

Before inserting the tree into the stand, place a protective material under it to prevent accidental scratches on the flooring.

You can create a stand from a box using a hacksaw and a few pieces of wood. The box itself is not decorated, that is its charm, but inside it is built a base-stand for an artificial Christmas tree - most often it is a "cross".

Step 1... To begin with, you will need to cut the prepared boards. When applying the markings, keep in mind that you will need 3 pieces 60 cm long.

Step 2... Mark 5 and 17 cm from each edge of the board. The lines should be drawn from the side of the board at an angle of 60 degrees. You will need two lines. The distance between them should correspond to the height of the board.

Step 3... Make notches along the lines. Deepen the cut lines to about half the width of the board.

Step 4... Using a hammer and chisel, complete the grooves. They are needed to assemble three boards into a single structure.

Step 5... Assemble the prepared boards in the form of a triangle.

Step 6... Drill one hole in the central part of each side of the resulting stand. Place them at a distance of 2 - 3 cm from the top.

Step 7... Send a polyethylene bag inside the structure. Screw the screws into the prepared holes, but do not drive them to the very head.

Step 8... In the inner part of the structure, frame a spruce or pine tree, which will decorate your home, and fix it in upright position with screws. Once the tree is in place, fill the inside of the plastic bag with water. So your tree will stand and delight with its appearance and aroma much longer.

Do not forget the screw holes when filling with water. Do not pour water above them.
