An origami book can be a great souvenir gift for anyone who loves to read and write their own stories. On the pages of the book, you can write wishes or poems, stick ready-made pictures or draw them yourself with a pen or felt-tip pen.

There are quite a few ideas for designing a finished book, it all depends on the imagination of the master. The cover can be made separately, and not necessarily from paper. For this, cardboard, fabric, felt, thin leather or leatherette are well suited. From above, the book is decorated with appliqué, rhinestones, ribbons. Such an origami-style book can replace a standard greeting card or become an original keychain.

A fairly simple origami in the form of a book is assembled from one or more rectangular A4 sheets. You can fold origami both from clean, white paper and from colored paper. You will also need a clerical knife, scissors, glue and colored thick paper or cardboard for the cover, which needs to be made separately. Only the contents of the book - the pages - are formed from a paper sheet.

How to make origami: fold the sheet in half lengthwise and then across and unfold.



With the central inflection, connect the edges and straighten so that the sheet is lined into eight sectors - future pages. Cut along the fold in the middle of the sheet with a clerical knife (in the photo - segment AB).



Bend the workpiece along and slightly press from the sides so that the rhombus “opens” in the middle. Close the shape and fold over to form the pages.




If necessary, repeat steps 1-5, making a book of the desired thickness. Cut the cover from colored cardboard to size (wrap the pages with cardboard and cut off the excess with scissors) and glue to the pages.

The cover can be made according to a color template from thin cardboard, which is easy to decorate with felt-tip pens, paints, ribbons or appliqué.

Beginning masters will also cope with this master class. The technique of assembling a book with a cover resembles modular origami: Folded pages are inserted into the cover.

To create such a book, you need to prepare two rectangular paper sheets - white for the pages and color for the cover. You can also use colored sheets for pages and thin cardboard for the cover (as in the MK example).

The assembly scheme is quite simple and includes step by step description following steps: bend the rectangle in half lengthwise. Collect an accordion from the resulting strip, bending it first upper part to the side and then down.



Repeating steps 1-2, prepare the required number of pages.



Connect the pages to each other by inserting one part into the other and securing with glue. Glue one side of the accordion and connect.


Cut a rectangle out of cardboard twice as wide as the length of the pages - the future cover. Bend along the edge of the cardboard to the middle.


Put the pages gathered together on the cover and wrap them. Bend the edges of the cover and put the first and last pages into its pockets.


In order not to use glue, the pages can be made according to the type of cover: bend the edges to the center, and then bend the accordion from the resulting strip (the longer the strip, the more pages). In this case, you can connect two blanks simply by nesting one into the other - they will hold tight without glue.

Folding a book from one sheet

A traditional origami paper book is assembled from one sheet. square shape. For crafts, a one-sided colored sheet of medium density is well suited: the white side of the sheet is future pages, the color is the cover.

A detailed step-by-step assembly instruction is presented below: fold the paper with an accordion: first in half, then the edges to the middle, bend from the middle to the edges and bend the edges back to the center (you should get eight parts in total).


Bend the figure in half and divide one part into three equal parts with folds, unfold. Bend the top corner so that the fold line is aligned with the middle, repeat for the bottom corner.


Expand the sheet completely (we got the line of the extreme fold and triangles). Bend back the edge along the fold and lay each triangle inward (it should turn out like in the diagram).


Fold four sheets of origami paper in half. If you take standard sheets of 15x15 cm, the book will turn out to be quite small. If you really want to be able to write in it, you should take sheets of 30x30 cm. Start by folding all four sheets in half.

  • The page of the book will be equal to 1/4 of the sheet used.

Cut all four sheets in half. All four sheets, folded in half, cut along the fold line. You will have eight sheets with an aspect ratio of 1 to 2.

  • Fold one of the sheets in half. Take the first of eight sheets and fold it in half lengthwise. The folded sheet will have an aspect ratio of 1 to 4 - 3.75x15 cm for a standard sheet size

    Fold the same sheet in half in the opposite direction. You need to fold the same sheet in half again, but now across. The folded sheet will have an aspect ratio of 1 to 2 - 3.75x7.5 cm.

    Fold up the top side. Take the top of the folded strip and fold it outwards, folding it in half. To do this, take the top layer by the edge and fold it over so that the edge matches the fold made in step 4.

    Fold up the bottom side. This step is similar to step 5, but the same steps are taken from the bottom of the folded sheet. The bottom layer of the sheet after folding in step 4 will be longer than the top layer. Bend it outward in the same way as the top layer.

    Repeat steps 3 to 6 for six more sheets. To make more pages for the book, you need to follow steps 3 to 6 on the seven halves of the sheets you cut earlier. Seven sheets will make ten sheets of the finished book.

    • You don't need an eighth sheet.

  • Arrange the folded pages in order. When you have folded all the sheets, you need to fold them in a certain order. When viewed from above, the sheets are shaped like the letters W or M. Arrange them in a row so that W and M alternate.

    • The top row should look like MWMWMWM.

  • Connect the sheets together. Fold the last section of the first sheet and the first section of the next sheet (the "legs" W and M) into a line and connect them by inserting the second section into the folds of the first formed in step 3.

    Cut the fifth sheet of origami paper in half. When you connect all the pages, you can make a cover for the book. First, take the last piece of origami paper and cut it in half.

    • Since this sheet will serve as a cover, you can use paper of a different color or even with a pattern.

  • Fold the top and bottom edges to the center. Take half of the cut sheet and bend the top and bottom edges towards its middle. You need to fold the sheet lengthwise to reduce its width, not its length.

    Position the block of pages in the center of the cover. Take the folded pages and press down to flatten the block, then center it on the future cover. To make sure you place it exactly in the center, fold the long cover piece around the block of pages - the ends should be the same.

    First of all, take a standard A4 paper sheet and fold it in half along the larger side.

    Bend the resulting halves twice along the bend.

    Take a piece of A4 white paper and fold it in half along the long side.

    Once again, bend across and unfold.

    Then fold in half from the bend line right and left side and unfold. The result of these manipulations will be paper lined into eight even parts.

    In the paper, make a cut along the bold line as shown in the figure. Areas are marked with numbers in order to make it easier to explain further actions, you do not need to number them. In the figures below, by numbers, you can navigate the location of the parts of the craft.

    Fold the workpiece in the shape of a rhombus.

    Close the form by clicking on it from both sides.

    Fold the leaves to end up with a book.

    Then cut the leaves to end up with pages. If you wish, you can make a cardboard cover for the book in any color.

    Paper book - gift option

    What we will need:

    • A4 sheets of any quantity, it all depends on the thickness of the future book.
    • Glue PVA or any other for paper.
    • Strong threads, preferably nylon.
    • Scissors and paper cutter.
    • Any kind of cardboard in any color.
    • Fabric for covering.
    • Any paper, if you want to make a flyleaf.

    Cut the prepared sheets in the middle.

    Fold in half and fold one into one for several pieces.

    Mark holes for stitching and pierce with a knife or awl.

    Now the future book needs to be flashed. We start from the inside. Connect in the same place with other sheets.

    Then you connect everything according to the principle of a snake, you should get something similar, as in the figure on the right.

    After sewing the last hole, connect the ends of the thread together. Then take the following blanks and sew, as shown below.

    Thread the needle into the loop between the bases of the blanks. Pull up to the loop on the other side. Then go up.

    Here, too, you do everything in the form of a snake and again connect it to the bottom loop.

    With the next workpiece, do the same steps until you get a sufficient thickness. Ideally it should go like this.

    Smear the spine using glue for this. Cut out the cover from cardboard. The size can be any, but the length of the spine must be equal to the length of the spine of the book.

    Cut out a rectangular piece of fabric. Its size should exceed the size of the cover by approximately six to seven centimeters. Ideally it would be like this.

    In the event that you are using a thick fabric, then it is advisable for you to trim the corners. Now glue the edges.

    Leave space between lids and spine. Cut out the paper strip.

    Glue as shown in the picture below. Glue the wings to the cover, but do not glue the spines of the book and the cover.

    Try to do everything as accurately as possible, and then the result will be better.

    Book with already printed text

    First you need to print the contents of the book, that is, the text.

    To do this, open the text file in Word and set the print options.

    To do this, click the tab at the top “Page Layout”, in the menu that opens, set the orientation to “Portrait” and in the size item “A5”. You set the margins as follows: for the bottom one centimeter, for the top one and a half centimeters, for the inner two and a half centimeters and for the outer one and a half centimeters. Also select the "Mirror Fields" item.

    Then click on the "Insert" tab and select "Page Number". In it, choose the format you need, location, numbering font.

    Now you "comb" the document - correct errors, align the text, set the required font and its size. Then send the document to print.
    Here you choose which pages you want to print (if you do not need all of them), the default is to print all pages.

    This is for normal printing. This is not quite suitable for our book, so you set the following parameters for printing. If, for example, you decide to assemble a book from blocks of ten sheets, then set the following parameters: enter 40.1 in the number field. On the second 39.2 and so on. Do not forget that you need to print with the "two pages per sheet" parameter set.

    Ready-made sheets with text are folded and collected in the form of brochures. Then you sew or fasten with a stapler so that they do not fall apart.

    The next step is gluing brochures.

    Fold the brochures together and smear glue between their spines, press them tightly together.

    Now you need to let the glue dry. To do this, you need to press the sheets with something heavy. Dumbbells are perfect for this, for example.

    Put the workpiece on a smooth and even surface and press it with a board, then put a weight on top, while leaving the edge of the workpiece sticking out (about five millimeters), we will still work with them.

    Lubricate the protruding end liberally with glue.

    You make a wash down at the end, it should affect all the pages, it's about three or four millimeters.

    Leave the book for a while to dry thoroughly. One night in a dry place should, in principle, be enough.

    Now it's time for the firmware. No phone, don't worry! Books.

    Sew each of the brochures, with the help of threads, to the dried matter. This is done through the incisions made earlier.

    Thickly lubricate, with glue, the butt.

    Now let's start creating the cover.

    Take a very thick cardboard and cut out two rectangular shapes slightly larger than the page sizes. Using regular cardboard, cut out a rectangle the size of the end of a book.

    Cut out pieces of fabric. One should be as long as the butt, but wider in width. The second one is slightly narrower in width, but longer in length. The figure below shows everything clearly.

    Unfold the cover and place the cardboard in the middle, and the others on either side of it. Glue the fabric, turn over. Similarly, glue and glue the protruding ends to the base on the other side, everything is clearly visible in the pictures.

    Glue our creation with thick elegant paper or self-adhesive paper.

    The last step is to glue the cover to the book. Inside, glue the paper in order to fasten the structure.
