There is nothing easier than making flowers from fabric. Such crafts can serve as independent decoration or as an addition to clothing, hats and interior elements. To make them you need very little: fabric, patience and desire. As a result, it will be possible to create truly unusual and beautiful products.

There is nothing easier than making flowers from fabric

Roses made using this simple method are difficult to distinguish from real ones. They look as natural and original as possible. Ready-made flowers can later be used as a part of more advanced crafts, used to decorate pillows, floor lamps, clothes, for example, hats or a baby cap. A voluminous large flower made of knitwear can decorate a headband, large flowers can become details of decorative panels. You can make patterns and diagrams yourself, and if you are a novice needlewoman, download them from the Internet.

What is needed:

  • scraps of fabric;
  • scissors;
  • hot glue.

Step by step instructions:

  1. Cut the fabric into strips about half a meter in length.
  2. Fold the strip in half and coat it with a little glue.
  3. Roll the workpiece into a roll.
  4. After the fabric bundle becomes dense, begin to form the first petals. Fold the strip so that it protrudes slightly upward and wrap around the center.
  5. Using this principle, form all the petals, periodically fixing them with glue.
  6. The tail that remains must be lowered to the base and secured there with glue.

Cut a circle from the remaining fabric and glue it to the bottom of the product.

How to make petals from fabric

There are a huge number of ways to make flower petals from fabric. Having mastered one technique, mastering others will be quite easy.

The simplest of them comes down to the following actions:

  1. Cut circles of different sizes from a piece of fabric.
  2. Using a candle, melt the edges, causing them to become curved.
  3. Connect the petals together with glue or thread.

There are a huge number of ways to make flower petals from fabric.

To create more sophisticated colors, you can pre-treat the fabric with gelatin and find a suitable template. In this case, the petals need to not only be cut out, but also corrugated in any convenient way.

Another equally popular method is rolling the tape. In this case, the petals are formed by lifting and bending the strip at certain intervals.

Skilled needlewomen cut out each petal separately. In this case, the shape is given using wire or thread. Such flowers look the most natural, but the work requires some skill. It will be difficult for beginners to create such masterpieces, but if they want, everything is possible.

They delight, bring joy and inspiration all year round. Making flowers from fabric is a relatively new type of needlework in Russia, quickly gaining popularity. Chinese craftsmen have mastered this art to perfection, creating from fabric not only flowers, but also birds, animals, even fish. There are a great many ways to make flowers, but they all require certain qualifications and expensive tools and materials. How to decorate any holiday, your life with fabric flowers with your own hands - master class, photos and detailed description a method accessible to everyone without preparation or special tools.

Fabric flowers

Tools and materials

  • synthetic fabric (silk, chiffon, organza, etc.) for making petals;
  • candle for burning petals;
  • fabric paints (such as Decola “Batik”);
  • sharp scissors;
  • hot glue gun;
  • the basis for the future headband (hairpins, brooches - at your discretion);
  • material for decoration (ribbons, beads - optional);
  • inspiration!

Step by step instructions

  1. Choice of fabric. Warp beautiful flowerright choice fabric, in our case artificial. When combining several types of different densities and textures, the flower looks more impressive. The color scheme can be very diverse, you can combine several shades of ready-made colored fabric, but when you dye it yourself, the flower turns out to be more natural and alive.
  2. Determination of flower size. Making templates. To make petals, you need templates in the form of circles of different diameters, differing from each other in radius by half a centimeter less. You decide the number of templates yourself. best option- four. In our case, the radius of the largest is 37 mm; in finished form it decreases by 10-15 mm.
  3. Preparation of petals. We cut out the petals according to the template (depending on the density of the fabric and the splendor of the flower), according to the principle - the thinner the fabric, the more blanks. In our case, 4-5 pieces of each type. The further course of work depends on the chosen fabric.
  4. Option 1 - partial dyeing of white silk. The painting technique is wet (the transitions of shades are smoother and more natural), so the fabric must be moistened. We paint the middle of the flower with fabric paints, without trying to get perfect symmetry - nothing is the same in nature.
  5. Cutting out petals. After the workpieces have completely dried, we cut the circle into 4 parts, 10-15 mm short of the center. We round the edges of each sector in the form of a flattened drop.
  6. Edge processing. Burn the edges of the petals evenly and carefully in the flame of a candle or lighter. You can see this process in the video flowers made from fabric master class.

  7. Flower assembly. We arrange the processed quatrefoils by size. We make a flower by placing the petals in descending order and fixing them with hot glue. You can fasten the middle with a thread and a needle.
  8. Make stamens from foam plastic, tinting the balls green. You can buy sepals ready-made or cut leaves from fabric.
  9. We glue the stamens into the center of the flower, decorate them with leaves and secure them to the base (hoop, hairpin) using a heat gun. Our flower turned out to be more open, since only 10 four-leaf blanks were used in it.
  10. Option 2 – dyeing white chiffon completely. We paint the entire surface of the workpiece in concentric circles. Dry and cut out the petals in the same way.
  11. Flower assembly. We assemble in exactly the same way, only the number of petals is about 17 - the flower is obtained with a completely closed middle.
  12. Option 3 – blanks made from colored fabrics. Our MC has three types of fabrics - gray silk, light gray organza and colored crinkled chiffon.
  13. The work steps are the same, except for coloring. For comparison, let's make a flower from four-leaf and eight-leaf leaves (cutting the circle into 8 identical sectors with rounded edges).
  14. Time for work is reduced: cut - burn - assemble - fasten. The accessory is ready! This could be a brooch for the same dress or scarf, a hairpin, or a romantic hoop.

If this accessible master class has inspired you to new ideas, let's try to master the master class flowers made of fabric on gelatin, corrugated.

White corrugated rose on gelatin

Tools and materials:

  • a piece of white chiffon (40 x 50 cm);
  • Batik fabric paints (yellow and green);
  • sharp scissors;
  • pliers (wire cutters);
  • PVA glue (ideally a glue gun);
  • wire (thickness like from old transformers);
  • sharp pencil;
  • cardboard for patterns;
  • thick gauze or piece of cloth;
  • newspapers on simple absorbent paper;
  • white corrugated floral paper;
  • awl or thick needle;
  • material for decoration (beads, feathers, veil - optional);
  • great mood!

Step by step instructions

  1. We draw petal patterns on cardboard. In our case, there are 5 types of patterns: No. 1 30 mm x 26 mm – 2-4 pieces; No. 2 35 mm x 30 mm – 2-4 pieces; No. 3 40 mm x 36 mm – 3 pcs.; No. 4 45 mm x 40 mm – 4 – 5 pcs.; No. 5 50 mm x 46 mm – 4-5 pcs. and for leaves – No. 6 40 mm x 30 mm – 8 pcs. When cutting out blanks, mark each with a number and quantity. The number of petals is multiplied by the number of flowers plus buds.
  2. Template for gluing. In a circle with a diameter of 55 mm from the center, draw 5 teeth similar to tongues of flame. You need to cut out the blanks after dyeing the fabric. Quantity - depending on the number of roses plus buds.
  3. Don't like to draw? Print out these patterns.
  4. We cut out the petals from the gelatinized chiffon, placing them at an angle of 45 degrees. There is no need to cut out the adhesives right away - it will be inconvenient to work with.
  5. Organize your patterns by size. Don’t throw away the scraps – it’s convenient to test paint on them.
  6. Test staining. To make the rose look natural, you need to tint the centers, leaves, letons (stems) and lining. Dilute the paint with water on a palette or plate and check the saturation on a sample fabric (scraps). The color is quite intense now (will be diluted later).
  7. Painting blanks No. 1. We dip the petal with tweezers and immediately place it on the newspaper. When excess moisture is absorbed, transfer to dry and make sure they do not stick.
  8. Painting blanks No. 2 and No. 3. Dilute the paint a little and check the shade on a sampler. Tint petals No. 2. Dilute the paint with water again and check the shade. Color the petals No. 3.
  9. Coloring leaves No. 6 and No. 7. Add a little green to the yellow paint for a pale green tint to get one color scheme, without variegation.
  10. Dry the workpieces. We don’t throw away the remaining paint: it will be useful for coloring the stems.
  11. Corrugation. We cut out the backing and corrugate the petals. Why fold it in half, and gauze (or handkerchief) diagonally. Place the petal inside so that the folds match. We hold the structure with our left hand, and with our right hand we move the end of the gauze clockwise, twisting slightly. If the petals turn out to be elongated, the gauze should be folded not into a scarf, but longitudinally. The operation must be done with all the petal blanks. In order not to spoil the original, you can practice on a test piece of gelatinized fabric.
  12. Pierce the center of the gluing with an awl and cut slightly crosswise.
  13. Letons. To make the stem, cut the white corrugated paper thin strip and wind it onto the wire.
  14. Assembling the bud. We bend the end of the leton 1 cm in the form of a loop. We wrap petal No. 1 (the smallest) around, having previously coated it with PVA glue. Seals with thread or thin wire. In turn, with an overlap, we attach petals No. 1, No. 2, No. 3. This is enough for a bud.
  15. Flower. If it is a flower, then wrap the remaining petals on a toothpick (you can lightly collect them with your fingers). Don't forget to apply glue. Finally, wrap a thread around the flower for a neat look. Glue and wrap with paper, tint.
  16. We put on the gluing. We stretch the entire stem through the cut to the base of the flower or bud. Secure with a glue gun or PVA.
  17. We glue the leaves, stepping back a little from the top.
  18. Assembling the composition. Our MK has 2 flowers, 2 buds and 8 leaves. We place the roses opposite, each with 4 leaves and a bud. We grab the middle with a thread, do not cut off the ends: they can be decorated with stringed beads and varnished.
  19. We straighten the beauty and try it on. We will not glue the base to it; it is better to temporarily hold it with a pin from the back side.

The same principle applies to the master class on how to make flowers from other types of fabric, such as poppies. The photo shows options for using a flower to decorate clothes and hairstyles. For beginner needlewomen, read more about some techniques for processing fabric.

How to saturate fabric for flowers with gelatin? Soak 3 teaspoons of gelatin in 300 ml of water for an hour and heat in a water bath for 10 minutes until completely dissolved (do not boil!). Pour the solution onto a plate and let cool slightly. Immerse the prepared (washed and dried) fabric in the solution and, without wrung out, hang it to dry. The thinner the fabric, the more gelatin it requires.

Another method can be used to corrugate the petals. We fold the petal and gauze in exactly the same way, only we use an iron rather than our hand, turning it clockwise. Chiffon is the most suitable fabric for corrugation. Organza leaves traces of gelatin, satin is stiffer and does not curl well.

When processing the edges of the petals, some types of synthetics leave a black edge; the result also depends on the direction of the fibers of the fabric in the pattern.

To avoid the effect of a sooty edge, you need to wait until the candle burns out a little and work quickly and carefully. Hold it not directly above the candle, but on the side to control the burning. If you immediately pull the fabric a little while processing, you get a wavy edge.

It is better not to wash such flowers (especially those made with gelatin and PVA) and store them in a separate box. Wear under outerwear also not recommended (to avoid deformation). Flowers can be made from ribbons, attaching them directly to the fabric, as in the master classes of flowers from fabric by Tatyana Ulanova in this video. Welcome to the wonderful world of creativity!

You can’t tell about flowers made of fabric in one MK, I was engaged in this type of creativity about 10 years ago, while still in school, and then I happily abandoned this activity, so I don’t know any techniques, some require special devices.
everything is very detailed about tools, materials and technology, as well as manufacturing lessons.
In my MK I will try to tell you how to make flowers like on this postcard.

For this we need
1. gelatinized fabric
2.Flower patterns.

3. Fabric paints or ink for scrapbooking, or something you can use to tint petals and leaves.
4. Scissors.
5. Decoration in the form of a bead or brads or a button for the core of the flower.
6. Glue for assembling the flower.
7. thin cotton fabric or handkerchief.

Well let's start :))
1. To begin, cut out petals and leaves from gelatinized fabric..
It should be noted that when cutting out the details of the petals and leaves are laid out along the bias thread, this is important!

2.The cut out petals are tinted.
There are no prohibitions here, since we make stylized flowers, and not copies of living ones, there is room for your imagination to run wild :)
Usually, fabric paints are used for tinting, aniline (from a hardware store), acrylic (from a fabric store), ink (from a stationery store). You can tint on dry petals and on wet ones.

Here are some ways:

a) moisten the petal by lowering it into cold water, lay it out on a napkin or paper towel, and tint it with a brush, passing along the edge of the petal and at the base of the petal.

Since we are making a flower for scrapbooking, we do not touch the back side of the petal; we leave it to dry, transferring the petal to a clean area of the napkin. It is better if you use tweezers when tinting so that your hands do not get dirty and the petals do not stretch.

b) You can also tint it dry, before crimping - then just run along the edge with an ink pad and a little towards the center with a piece of sponge.

Or, after corrugation, we tint the petals, placing emphasis on the texture.

3. The most difficult stage is corrugation, to be honest it is easier to show than to describe :(, although there is nothing complicated about it.
So, let's prepare the pieces by folding them in half lengthwise, right side out.

To corrugate the petals, take a piece thin fabric or a handkerchief (but be prepared for the fact that it may tear).
Place it on the table. Place a petal in the middle.

Fold the fabric diagonally, from corner to corner, so that the fold of the fabric exactly matches the fold of the petal. The base of the petal should be directed towards you. I find it more convenient to do this at the very edge of the table.

With your left hand, press the “sandwich” very firmly onto the table, and with your right hand, grab the upper corner of the fabric.

Begin to pull the fabric from under your left hand, making a semicircle towards you.

The left hand continues to firmly press the fabric with the petal.

We corrugate the remaining petals and leaves in the same way.
Try to process the petal in one go. You can, of course, repeat it, but then the fabric will become much softer and it will be more difficult to work with the flower.

For the double blue petal, the technology differs only in that, having corrugated one petal, you turn the workpiece over and corrugate the second.

Be patient, and first I would advise you to practice on larger petals, it’s easier with them :)
Gently spread the petals.

Do the same with the rest of the blanks.

4. Now we start assembling our flowers.
For a large flower, cut from thick paper We will glue the petals onto the circle.

Master class 1. Simple roses made of fabric in country style

If you like, or rustic, then this master class is for you. Below are examples of the work that you can do after mastering the technique of rolling roses from fabric.

You will need:

  • Textile;
  • Scissors;
  • Hot glue gun.

How to make a rose from fabric:

Step 1: Cut the fabric into ribbons. To create one rose you will need one strip 50-70 cm long and about 3-5 cm wide. However, you can choose other sizes if you want to make the rose larger or smaller than in this project.

Step 2: Fold your strip in half and place a 1.5cm bead of glue on the tip (see right photo above).

Step 3. Start rolling the strip into a roll in a few turns.

Step 4. When the roll becomes sufficiently dense and strong, start forming the first “petals”: fold the ribbon obliquely to the outside as shown in the top photo on the right and wrap around the center of the rose.

Step 5. Continue forming the petals in the same order: fold the tape on the bias to the outside - wrap the workpiece - fold the tape on the bias to the outside - wrap the workpiece - etc. There should be approximately 3-5 bends of the ribbon per row of petals. From time to time, layers of fabric need to be fixed with hot glue. As a result, you should end up with a rose similar to the one in these photos.

Experiment with the number of folds of the flower and the density of the folding of the fabric to achieve a more careless or, conversely, more neat look for your flower

Step 6. Once the rose reaches the desired diameter, lower the remaining tail of the ribbon down and glue it to the base.

In this project, the back side of the craft was covered with the remaining tail of fabric.

Step 8. Make the number of flowers you need in different sizes– small, medium and large.

This video presents a master class on how to make roses from denim with your own hands.

Master class 2. Artificial flowers made of satin fabric or organza

Looking at these flowers from satin fabric, it seems that they were created by a real master of flower making, but in fact, even a beginner can make the same realistic peonies/roses.

You will need:

  • Candle;
  • Satin, silk, chiffon or organza made from 100% polyester. For making peonies, white and pink fabric (all shades) is suitable;
  • Scissors;
  • Floss threads yellow(for stamens);
  • Needle.

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut out 5 circles from fabric: 4 circles with a diameter of 8-10 cm and 1 circle with a diameter of approximately 5-8 cm. You can cut roughly and by eye, any inaccuracies and unevenness do not matter.

Step 2. Light a candle and start processing the first round workpiece: carefully bring its edge close to the flame and begin to rotate around its axis so that all the edges of the circle are melted and curled. Be careful, have a glass of water ready, and most importantly, do not bring the workpiece too close to the fire. Keep in mind that if you overdo it, the edges will turn black, which is not always desirable. However, sometimes it is the blackened edges that give homemade flowers realism or originality. Repeat this process with all remaining circles.

Step 3. Now, using scissors, make 4 cuts on each workpiece as shown in the diagram and photo below. The main thing here is to leave the center of the circle intact.

Step 4. Back to working with the candle again. This time we melt the newly obtained sections, pushing the sections apart with both hands. Repeat the procedure with all five petals.

Step 5. Set 2 large and 1 smallest pieces aside. We will return to them later, but for now let's work on the 2 remaining blanks, that is, the middle layers of peony petals. They need to be cut again according to the following pattern.

As a result, you will get twice as many petals.

Step 6. Use a candle to burn the new cut areas and set the pieces aside.

Step 7. It's time to make the peony stamens in the form of a small pompom from yellow floss threads. To do this:

  • Wind a whole strand of floss tightly around your index and middle fingers together. You should get about 8 turns.
  • Now tie the middle of the resulting skein tightly (between two fingers) with the same yellow thread.
  • Cut two loops, straighten the threads and trim the pompom if necessary.

Step 8. We begin to “assemble” the flower. Stack two large blanks on top of each other, which have only 4 petals, then put two blanks with 8 petals on them and, finally, complete the bud with the smallest blank with 4 petals.

Step 9. Hurray, the flower is almost ready! All that remains is to sew a yellow pompom to its center, simultaneously sewing all 5 layers of petals together.

If desired, glue/sew the necessary accessories, such as a pin, to the back of the bud to make a brooch out of the flower.

By changing the shape, color, size of the petals, their number and gluing principle, you can make not only peonies and roses, but also poppies (pictured), ranunculus, lilies and tulips.

And here is an example of flowers made from organza.

Master class 3. Flower made from frills in 5 minutes

Don't have hot glue, but have a needle and thread? Or did you suddenly need to make fabric flowers as quickly as possible? Then we hasten to introduce you to the technique of making flowers from frills.

You will need:

  • Textile;
  • Scissors;
  • Needle and thread to match the fabric;
  • Iron (optional).

Step 1. Cut the fabric into strips about 30 cm long and about 7-8 cm wide. You can choose other sizes to make smaller or larger flowers.

Step 2. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and iron the fold.

Step 3. Baste the workpiece with wide stitches at the bottom as shown in the photo below.

Step 4. Assemble the workpiece into an accordion, slowly pulling out the thread. Do not pull the thread too hard to avoid breaking it.

Step 5. Complete the circle by connecting the two ends of the ribbon and making a few stitches (tie a knot on the back side).

Step 6. Glue/sew beads, rhinestones or buttons into the center of the flower. Ready!

This method can be modified slightly if you want to make a more layered flower with raw cuts, such as linen or denim. Cut a wide, long strip of fabric, baste it down the middle from start to finish, gather it into an accordion shape, roll one edge of the strip into a log, and then start rolling the ribbon around it. Periodically, layers of fabric need to be fixed with glue or stitches. Below in the photo slider there is a master class in pictures on making a flower from flax (scroll the photo to the right).

If you have a long length of fabric, you can make a flower of large diameter, for example, to decorate a pillow cover. To gather such a long ribbon, the easiest way is to use a sewing machine.

To make such large flowers, you will need strips of fabric 2.5-3 m long

These potted flowers are made from old cotton T-shirts.

Master class 4. Volumetric pompom flower

This master class is good in cases where you need a fabric flower to be voluminous and lush.

You will need:

  • Any soft fabric desired color;
  • Hot glue gun;
  • Scissors;
  • Felt.

Instructions:

Step 1. Cut about 20-30 circles with a diameter of about 4 cm from the fabric. All these circles will later become petals. You can cut the blanks by eye; the correctness of the shape does not matter.

  • To cut several circles at once, simply fold the fabric 3-4 times.

Step 2. Now cut out a circle with a diameter of about 4 cm from felt. This circle will become the base of your flower.

Step 3. Take one of your petal circles and fold it to form a ball like the photo below.

Step 4. Glue your piece with the tip to the center of the felt base.

Step 5. Continue gluing your balls one by one to the felt base until it is completely covered with petals. Voila! The flower is ready!

If you wish, you can make the flower flat rather than lush and complement it with beaded stamens. To do this, the petals need to be folded as follows: bend the circle in half, then bend the right and left parts of the resulting semicircle towards its center to make a quarter. Next, all you have to do is glue the petals in a circle onto the felt base, and then sew/glue the beads into the center.
