It's good that people have learned to do things from plastic bottles that we will use again. long time... As they say, here we are killing two birds with one stone: we do not litter nature, and this empty container is not small for us. I really liked the idea of weaving laundry baskets from plastic bottles. Although in the same way you can easily weave both boxes and handbags. Things turn out amazing, and even lightweight and durable. Japanese inventor Takashi Utsumi has developed a tool to cut strips of plastic bottles for weaving baskets, but we can't afford it. We will use the old method: ordinary scissors or a stationery knife. It is clear that first you need to cut off the bottom and neck of the bottle, and then start cutting. The photo shows that we cut the strips in a circle, and one strip is obtained from one bottle. From my own experience, I know that cutting straight strips is very difficult. And in order to facilitate this work, I propose to stick a plaster or electrical tape around the entire circumference of the bottle and then cut the bottle into strips along the edges of the electrical tape. The strips are quite even, just the way they are needed for weaving.

A basket of plastic bottles

How to weave a basket from plastic bottles? It's very simple. You can, of course, use this scheme and get a prettier weaving, but if you don't have enough experience, then I suggest going the other way for now. First, we choose the required shape of the box, turn it upside down and weave the bottom, sitting right on the box. To keep the weave from unraveling, use clothespins and rubber bands that are placed around the edges of the box to secure the strips.

When the bottom of the basket is ready, we seal more and bend the strips along the box for weaving the side walls, fix them again with a regular elastic band so that the strips do not get confused, and we continue weaving, but already in a circle. The first two rows are the hardest to do, and then it will be much easier. Well, you have reached the desired height of the future basket. Turn the workpiece over and begin to complete the weaving. With the remaining strips free from weaving, we bend around the upper horizontal interwoven strip and bend them inside the basket, weaving them into the existing weaving.

It is more convenient to finish work if your basket is lying on its side. It seems that there is nothing complicated. You just picked up the box you needed in the shape and completely braided it around with strips from a plastic bottle, and when weaving was completed, pulled it out of the finished basket. We provide the weaving pattern in the photos.

If you like this idea, try weaving other things like these. And baskets, and bags, and various boxes made of plastic bottles are much more durable, stronger and lighter than ordinary ones, and we can say that they are prettier and are in great demand on the farm.

The eternal question of the masters about where to put the mountains waste material, solved. You can make excellent baskets from plastic bottles, which will become a decoration of a summer cottage or original packaging for a gift. If you want to master weaving baskets from plastic bottles with your own hands, a master class for beginners will help you with this.

Weaving history

Weaving originated in ancient times. This technique has been used to create kitchen utensils, harvest baskets, hunting traps, house walls, furniture, and toys. Wicker items were made from various natural materials- reeds, herbs, vines. The toys had a sacred meaning, because they were made by hand. They were slandered about health and good luck. Wickerwork was believed to ward off evil spirits. Everyone knows the object called "dream catcher" and its properties to keep nightmares out of the owner's mind. And wicker furniture is always in trend, light, comfortable and durable. The first wicker chairs were found during excavations in Ancient Rome.

Times passed each other, new materials began to appear. From what they just do not weave in our time - from ribbons, ropes, small colored rubber bands, plastic bottles and newspaper tubes.

Corner technique

This type of making baskets from plastic bottles is quite simple. First, corners are made from cut plastic bottles, and then the product is assembled from them into a single whole. To complete the product you will need:

  • Plastic bottles;
  • Scissors;
  • Fishing line;
  • Glue gun.

To work, you need to cut the bottles with scissors into strips, the width of which is 1 cm and the length is 8.

If you are planning to take strips of a different size, then when calculating, remember that the length of the strip is eight times the width. It is important to choose bottles that do not have unnecessary bends.

Cut off the bottom and neck, and use the rest to cut the workpieces.

The strips are ready, now they need to be bent in half, unfold and fold the edges towards the center as shown in the photo.

You will need a lot of such blanks. Connect them together by inserting into each other.

Weave the bottom of the basket from several parts, sewing the corners one by one. For strength, you can glue the bottom with transparent tape. Parts are attached to each other on a fishing line.

After the bottom is made, a long horizontal zigzag strip is made. Its size is equal to the girth of the bottom. The strips are also held together with a fishing line. You can fasten them in dense rows or make diamond-shaped gaps. Remember to attach the correct size handle. The basket is ready!

It can be used as a candy vase or garden planter. The advantages of such a product are that plastic is not afraid of changes in temperature and humidity. If you plan to use the basket as a flowerpot, then the bottom does not need to be done. Simply clip the zigzag strips together. Dig a little decoration on the flower bed and plant beautiful flowers. At the end of the summer season, you can simply rinse the basket with water and put away for storage.

"Chess"

This weaving method is a little more complicated than the previous one, but using detailed step-by-step instructions, you can easily cope with the implementation of the basket.

The difficulty of this method lies in the manufacture of strips: they must be long. But here, too, experienced needlewomen brought the process to almost perfection. They came up with great method, thanks to which you can cut strips of the same width, rationally using the entire bottle. In order to dissolve the container into strips, you need to remove the bottom and neck and apply electrical tape or narrow masking tape to its surface with neat turns. And already along the turns, cut the entire surface into a long strip.

Do not try to straighten it, it will still lie correctly in work.

To work on making a basket, you will need:

  • Strips from plastic bottles;
  • Scissors;
  • Elastic;
  • Clamps;
  • A small container that you will use as a base for weaving.

Weaving starts from the bottom. To do this, place vertical stripes on the table and weave horizontal stripes in a checkerboard pattern using this pattern.

It should look like this. Run clear tape along the sides to give strength to the bottom.

Now this blank can be transferred to the braided box. For convenience, secure the strips on it with an elastic band.

Continue adding stripes, weaving them in a checkerboard pattern. If the "vine" is over, you should attach the next strip with an overlap using tape. Having finished the weaving, remove the product from the base and, carefully bending the strips along the edge, reinforce them with tape from the inside. Make a handle if necessary. The basket is ready. With her, you can perfectly go to the forest for mushrooms.

Or you can make a large laundry basket.

Find material for creating baskets Usually it is not difficult: unscrupulous vacationers throw out a lot of bottles and plastic caps in the forest, on the beach, in summer cottages. Therefore, you will not have to spend money on buying ribbons for making crafts.

It is only necessary to make a special tool to speed up the process of making yarn from plastic. You can make a device from a clerical knife and an iron corner by connecting them to each other. A couple of holes of a certain diameter are made in the corner above the blade with a hacksaw for metal, and then a handle is attached to the base, on which you can hang a bottle.

Having cut off the bottom of the product, you need to disconnect the beginning of the ribbon, put its "tail" into one of the holes and just pull the edge. In contact with the sharp part of the blade, the bottle will cut itself, and the hole diameter will dictate the thickness of the yarn.

We weave baskets from plastic bottles with our own hands in a master class for beginners

Before starting work, prepare the following items in advance:

  • plastic bottles in large quantities;
  • scissors;
  • fishing line or strong nylon thread;
  • a piece of cardboard or thin plastic;
  • glue for plastic products.

The color of the bottles can be any, but first it is better to do the first work completely monochromatic, and only then experiment with the shades of plastic. Baskets made entirely from green or brown bottles look best. If the final version does not suit you, use regular paints.

The first way to weave a basket is “corners”.

This step-by-step guide will guide you through each step of the cart creation process without errors. Better to start by cutting the bottles into their component parts. Cut the bottle plastic into long and narrow strips 1 cm wide. Their number varies depending on the size of the product, but in any case, you will need a lot of strips, so it's best not to be lazy.

After cutting the bottles, fold each of the resulting blanks in half so that a fold appears in the center. Bend both halves of the strips separately, folding them inward. The ends of the parts should be folded with a center fold.

You will end up with a strip that is 4 times shorter than its original version. On one side there will be a fold, and on the back there will be 2 free edges hidden inside the workpiece.

Now take two parts and connect them by inserting the tips of one into the other and moving both midpoints towards each other. You will receive a "corner". Then insert the third part into it in the same way, then the fourth and so on to make a zigzag. Continue until the length of the zigzag is equal to the circumference of the basket.

Fasten the ends of the zigzag elements by tying with fishing line or thread. Make another piece for the basket handle.

The number of elements depends on the desired height of the craft. When there are enough of them, you can start assembling.

Tie all rows with fishing line and attach the handle with its help. It is better to do it in 2 or 3 rows wide. If necessary, insert a bottom cut from cardboard or plastic into the basket. If the finished basket will be on the street, it is better to use the second option. Glue the bottom with a glue gun or just glue.

The second weaving method is "chess".

This method may seem more complicated to you than the previous one, but only at first. The materials and tools will be the same as before, plus a cardboard box.

It all starts with cutting the bottles into the longest strips. This is where thin electrical tape comes in handy. Here's how it's done: The middle of the bottle is wrapped with tape at a slight angle. Do not overlap the layers of adhesive tape. Cut the bottles along the lines obtained, and peel off the tape and remove.

Next, you need a box. It will serve as a convenient guide for the size of the product, and, one might say, a machine. Place it upside down and fasten the strips of plastic on it close to each other, in one (horizontal or vertical) direction, as shown in the photo. Secure them to the sides of the box using tape. Then take more strips, and pass them one by one between the parts fixed to the box.

This can be done without a box, on any flat surface, for example, on a table.

Weave the sides of the basket in the same way. When ready, gently bend the edges of the plastic and glue them to the inside of the piece.

The handle for the basket can be made from parts - "corners".

These baskets are perfectly suitable as a stand for flower pots. If you make a basket without a bottom and fill it with soil, a wonderful flower bed will come out of it. The material from which the crafts are made is very durable and will not lose its beauty for many years.

Plastic is easily washed away from dirt, so it is easy to move the baskets into the house for the winter. Such an unusual decoration will certainly attract the attention of guests, and making plastic baskets will be interesting for the whole family.
