Despite the fact that December has just begun, I already want New Year's holiday. And what will create Christmas mood better than a Christmas tree? Although, recently New Year's topiaries have also become very popular. Such a small tree can be placed on festive table or decorate your office with it. In addition, the New Year's topiary will be a great souvenir!

We have already talked about what topiary is and what are the basic principles of its manufacture. Today we’ll talk about what features New Year’s topiary has.

Before you start making your own topiary, decide on its shape. The shape can be either round (traditional) or figured (for example, herringbone).

New Year's topiary ball

The principle of creating such a topiary is similar to the previous one, just instead Christmas decorations You can use pine cones.

First, we glue cones to the ball-shaped base, and then fill the gaps between the cones with various decorative elements (beads, bows, small Christmas balls). The main thing is not to overdo it with decoration.

If you take a cone and spruce or pine branches as a basis, it will also turn out quite nice:

Topiary made from edible materials (nuts, sweets, tangerines)

"Tangerine" tree

It's no secret that tangerines are a favorite New Year's treat. Therefore, we will consider the process of creating a “tangerine” topiary in more detail.

Prepare the following materials:

  • tangerines
  • a skein of linen rope (can be bought at any gardening and flower shop)
  • a flower pot from which our tree will actually grow
  • a beautiful branch or driftwood, strong enough to withstand the weight of tangerines
  • scissors and paper knife
  • a piece of foam or floral oasis
  • spruce branches and mistletoe leaves for decoration
  • pieces of wire for strengthening tangerines on the tree (a set of small hairpins will do)
  • artificial snow (it can be crushed polystyrene foam or anything else, as long as it looks like snow)

We take our tangerines and wrap them with rope crosswise. We strengthen the wire as shown in the photo:

Lightly coat the twig (so that the needles do not stick together) with PVA glue and dip it in the snow.

We cut out a cone from polystyrene foam or oasis, which is shaped to easily fit into our pot.

Let's move on to the most difficult and important part. We strengthen the branch in the oasis so that it does not dangle. We begin tying the tangerines one to the other, starting from the bottom. There will be fewer tangerines at the bottom, a little more in the middle, and the same number at the top as at the bottom. Then we decorate all this beauty with leaves and twigs.

DIY New Year's topiary is ready! You can safely decorate your holiday table with it.

Remember that tangerines are a perishable product, so it is better to make such a tree on the eve of the New Year. As worthy alternative You can use decorative tangerines - plastic or made from polymer clay.

The materials are the most standard: a foam ball, a stick for the trunk, a pot, a satin ribbon for decoration, a foam cube, adhesive tape and 200-300 grams of candy.

Pay attention to how you can secure the trunk in a foam cube, as well as decorate it:

New Year holidays are one of the most anticipated and wonderful holidays in our lives. It is noteworthy that every year, in anticipation of the New Year, we wait for something magical and try to bring something new, unknown into our lives and, of course, into our home. The tradition of installing a live Christmas tree is gradually giving way to various home decoration options such as wreaths, artificial trees, and twigs. DIY New Year's topiaries are another option for crafts that can beautifully and inexpensively decorate your home for the 2019 holiday season.

What is it

Topiary is a beautiful tree in a pot that you make with your own hands. The origin of such decorations can be called plant architecture, which was popular in the 17th century. Gardeners cut out all kinds of figures from their bushes: birds, animals, portraits.

Today, topiary is a tree made from decorative, natural materials and others. Recently, they are even made from sweets, cheese and sausage. They are not suitable for decoration, but will become a great gift.

Making holiday topiaries with your own hands

There are many master classes on the Internet, but there are rules that you need to understand before starting work.

  1. The first step is to decide on the style of the craft. It can be a stylized Christmas tree or pine tree, a tree made of cones, acorns, glass balls, satin ribbons, paper napkins or money. You can use the symbol of 2019 according to Chinese calendar: yellow pig.
  2. New Year's topiary can embody the fulfillment of your cherished desires, which means that to decorate it you can add symbols of everything that you would like to bring into your life. These could be coins to attract money, a toy car to make your dream of a new car come true, or hearts to attract love. The creative process will be a resource for positive changes in life, because we all make wishes under New Year, so why not help yourself with their formulation by creating a topiary?
  3. New Year's souvenirs made with your own hands will become wonderful gifts friends and family. Through such a gift you can express your best wishes.

So, what the tree will be made of is determined, it remains to understand how. The topiary consists of a crown and a trunk, which are subsequently attached to the base.

The base can be any flowerpot, flower pot, plastic or glass glass, cup, or small box.

For the trunk you will need a strong wooden stick, several wires twisted together, you can also use plastic or metal rods. The trunk can be straight or curved - it depends on the idea of your tree.

The crown most often has the shape of a ball. To do this, use polystyrene foam or various kinds of balls, on which materials decorating the topiary are fixed. For the Christmas tree, you can use cone-shaped shapes or an abstract crown.

Crown

It’s better to start by preparing the crown. Let's consider several options.

  • From polyurethane foam. In order to make a round crown yourself, you can even use polyurethane foam. To do this, take two plastic sour cream boxes. Fill them with foam. When it hardens, remove the boxes. Glue the foam together with PVA glue, and then cut it so that you get a neat ball.
  • Made from polystyrene foam. Take thick polystyrene foam, you can use what is left over from the packaging of household appliances. Glue it into a cube using PVA glue and carefully cut it with a paper knife. True, when cutting polystyrene foam, the material becomes highly electrified and scatters throughout the apartment. It's best to vacuum it up immediately.

  • From threads. Take a balloon. Inflate it up the right size and wrap it with threads, soaking each layer with PVA glue. The layers of thread should be quite dense and cover the ball completely. When the glue dries, pop the ball. The result is an openwork base in which you can easily attach light topiary decorations.

  • Rubber ball. A medium-sized rubber ball can serve as the basis for a crown. Just don't use pins to attach jewelry to it. But a glue gun will attach the materials to the base well.

  • Papier-mâché. Paper, glue, paper. From papier-mâché you can create a cone-shaped, spherical, or crown non-standard shape. The disadvantage is that it takes time for each layer to dry properly. And the strength is slightly lower than that of polyurethane foam or polystyrene foam.

  • For a cone-shaped crown, foam, polystyrene foam, and thick cardboard are suitable. You just need to maintain the correct proportion of the cone.
  • Non-standard forms. Hearts and abstract figures are created in a similar way from any available materials. Creating such crowns requires more experience and patience.

Trunk

As mentioned earlier, the trunk can be straight or curved. Ordinary wood, wire, and plastic are perfect for it.

To decorate the trunk you can use:

  • acrylic paints;
  • threads;
  • tinsel, rain;
  • crushed shells or ground coffee, tea;
  • other interesting and accessible materials.

Warp

Often finished craft It turns out not very easy. In order to give it stability, you need to take care of a solid base. Most often, plaster or alabaster is used for this:

Manufacturing process:

  1. Decorate the pot for the base.
  2. Pour alabaster solution into the pot. The consistency should be thicker than sour cream.
  3. Insert the barrel into the solution, fix it and wait until it hardens.
  4. After hardening, attach the crown to the trunk. Additionally glue the joint with PVA glue or other durable glue.
  5. Now you can start decorating the product.

Having familiarized yourself with the features of making parts of the craft, you can begin to implement the project. The templates below can help with this.

Step-by-step master class on creating topiary: video

New Year's topiary can be an excellent gift or decoration for the New Year. You can give it to friends, as such a gift is very unusual and beautiful. And it will become even more valuable as a gift if you make it yourself.

Let's first explain what topiary is to those who do not yet know about it. Topiary is a small decorative tree in a pot. Most often its crown is round. Topiary can be made in the shape of a Christmas tree from pine cones. In general, any available materials are suitable for its manufacture. The main thing is to have imagination.

Making New Year's topiaries with your own hands with voluminous balls

This master class will tell the reader in detail how to make topiary.

Let's look at the materials we need. We need a foam cone, several small ones Christmas balls, candlestick, wide ribbon and glue.

We will use a candlestick instead of a pot. This unusual pot will perfectly emphasize the festiveness of the topiary. On top part Apply glue to the candlestick. Press the cone into the place where the glue is applied. Hold for a while until the cone sticks tightly.

While the glue dries, you can start working with the balls. First, remove the metal fasteners. This is especially important if you are making a herringbone topiary.

We paint the cone with paint to minimize the number of gaps and other defects that could interfere with the gluing of the balls. You can choose the color yourself. You can use gold, silver. It all depends on your taste.

To glue the ball, coat it with hot glue. We press the ball into the cone, it should be fixed as firmly as possible.

We continue to fill the surface with balls until we have a Christmas tree. In the photo below you can see other topiaries.

New Year's topiary.

For this tree we need yarn. No glue is required here, which is a definite plus.

We will need a foam or cardboard cone, a skein of yarn, scissors, a needle, small Christmas balls, pot, trunk, tape. A small rod can be used as a trunk.

Such trees are very rarely placed in pots, but traditions are traditions.

We secure the skein of yarn at the base with sewing needles. The cone must not be hollow.

Wrap the cone with yarn, make the turns tight, without gaps.

Secure all the threads in place with the sewing needles used in the first step.

When you reach the top of the cone, cut the thread and secure with a needle.

Almost half of the work is done. Now we need to attach the tree to the trunk. The trunk of the Christmas tree should be as inconspicuous as possible. This could be a piece of pencil or some other cone-shaped object. For greater reliability, you can fix the structure with glue.

We insert the Christmas tree into the pot. You can take any pot, the main thing is that it is not very large.

You can fix the Christmas tree using plaster. We secure it and put tinsel on the bottom of the pot to hide the plaster.

And so, the time has come last step. We must decorate our Christmas tree. To do this, we hang balls on yarn. We put a star on the top of the tree. Our topiary is ready.

DIY Christmas tree:

We will need a foam cone; if we don’t have one, we’ll make a cone out of cardboard. We dye it the color of the wool and try not to make any gaps. The cone should look monotonous in color.

We stretch a thick wire to the very top of the cone, with the help of which a small “squiggle” will be made at the top of the Christmas tree. This move will significantly decorate the tree and make it more interesting.

You can make a very good trunk for a Christmas tree from wooden skewers. Glue the skewers to the base of the cone and paint them brown, which will provide resemblance to a real trunk.

We plant the Christmas tree in a pot. You can take either an expensive pot or an ordinary plastic one, but the latter will have to be decorated with fabric or other materials. Good decision will become a pot wrapper corrugated paper or foil.

"Coffee tree":

In this case, you can use not a cone-shaped shape, but a spherical one. If you don't have foam ball or a small ball, you can make a ball from a wad of newspapers tightly tied with threads.

We paint the ball brown or gold, wait for it to dry and proceed to pasting with grains. After gluing, you can paint several grains in a separate color to get a date or some word.

We attach the trees to a stem-leg and place them in a pot.

Our original coffee tree is ready.

New Year's topiary. Master class with step by step photos.

Author: Tatyana Eruslanovna Tyagina, teacher kindergarten No. 7 Kiselyovsky urban district, Kemerovo region, Russia.
The master class is designed for older children school age, teachers, parents and people involved in creativity.
Purpose: This master class is intended for making a tree of happiness - a topiary, which can serve not only as an interior decoration, but also become an excellent New Year's gift.

Tasks: introduce topiary technology, develop creative imagination, fantasy; instill aesthetic taste, develop hand motor skills, perseverance; cultivate accuracy when performing work.

Initially, topiary was a garden with decorative trimmed plants and sculptures created from artistically trimmed trees. The art of topiary has a long history. Yes, back in Ancient Egypt and Persia valued the ability to give geometric shapes to bushes and trees. And the most famous example of a topiary garden is the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in Babylon - one of the seven wonders of the world. And now topiary (or European tree) is the name for small original trees, for the production of which natural and artificial materials. Topiary is decorative in nature, and what it will be made of depends only on the author’s imagination. And the size of topiary can be from 10-15 centimeters to half a meter.
Materials and tools for making New Year's topiary: not a large pot, a branch or stick 40 cm, newspaper, thread with a needle, plaster, artificial white fur, Christmas tree beads, artificial pine branch (brush) sold by the meter, wire cutters, scissors, glue gun, Moment glue, decorative green and red, red bow, decorative silver branch, pine cones, white gouache or corrector, various New Year's mini toys.
Work progress:
1. We make the base for the topiary: we form a ball with a diameter of 10 cm from newspaper and wrap it with threads for strength.

2. Make a hole in the ball, insert a branch and secure with hot glue. We wrap the branch with green braid.

3. Fill the pot with diluted plaster and immerse the base of the topiary in it. You don't have to wait long for the plaster to harden.

4. Decorate the trunk of the topiary with Christmas tree beads using glue.

5. Let's start making the topiary crown. Using wire cutters, cut the artificial pine brush into 17 cm pieces. My topiary took 40 of these pieces. It all depends on what diameter your ball is.

6. Bend the pine pieces in half.

7. You get these fluffy lumps.

8. Using hot glue, attach the pine fluffy lumps tightly to each other on the ball. You need to start from the bottom of the ball.

9. It turns out like this crown.

10. Now let’s decorate the crown of the topiary. For this you will need: cones, corrector or white gouache, various New Year's mini-souvenirs, a decorative silver branch.

11. Cover the tips of the cones with a corrector (you can use white gouache).

12. Glue the painted cones between the pine branches.

13. Glue New Year’s mini toys along the crown.

14. Glue decorative silver branches between the pine branches. Cover the tips of the pine needles with corrector or white gouache.

15. Let's start decorating the pot. For this you will need: white faux fur, red braid, large silver beads, a couple of New Year's mini toys (gifts), pine brush needles.

16. Cut out a “fur coat” for the pot from white fur. The pattern depends on the shape of your pot.

17. Sew the darts together and use hot glue to secure the “coat” to the pot. We tie the “fur coat” with red braid and decorate it with a bow.

18. Place pine needles in a pot, then beads and gifts.

19. Lovely New Year's gift ready for friends and family.

An original and festive, bright fairy-tale topiary can be made from what is found in every home.
Not a single ruble was spent on this composition - everything was found in the house: pine cones from the Christmas tree, a glass from a wall shelf, a candle had long been collecting dust in the closet, and every housewife has threads and other little things.

For specifics, here is a list of necessary materials:

3 cones,
hard thick wire,
green oilcloth,
glass glass,
polystyrene foam,
acrylic paint brown,
beads of different colors and sizes,
white nail polish,
green candle,
green floss threads,
alabaster, glue gun.

First, we will prepare all the elements of the structure separately.

We make blanks from rigid wire - pieces 15, 20, 30 cm long - 7 pieces in total. If the wire is not stiff enough, it is recommended to fold it in half and twist it.

Let's immediately prepare coniferous branches - wreaths. To do this, cut green oilcloth into strips 30 cm long and 5 cm wide.

We fold each strip in half lengthwise and cut it along its entire length with scissors, creating a fringe.

Cut the wire to the same length as the strips. We twist the cut layers with wire, fixing the needles in a straightened form.

We roll the finished branches into wreaths.

From a large green candle, cut 2 pieces 2.5 cm long and melt them over the fire to smooth out the rough cut.

All topiary elements are ready. Now they need to be collected into a single composition.

First, the prepared wrapped pieces of wire need to be secured in a glass. Alabaster diluted with water will help fix them in the container.

To decorate the glass and to disguise the alabaster, we will use polystyrene foam and pine branches. We cover the edges of the glass and the walls halfway with polystyrene foam, creating the appearance of stuck snow. And carefully place the prepared pine needles on dried alabaster around the branches.

We give the branches beautiful bends.

We will organically arrange the cones on three branches - first we glue a wreath to the branch, and then a cone to it. Glue multi-colored beads along the edge of the wreath.

We place candles on the other two branches. We also first glue wreaths to the branch, and then mini-candles to them.

We sprinkle the needles on the wreaths with snow - we tint the ends of the whites with nail polish. The glass itself can also be painted with blue snowflakes.

The topiary is ready! Such a composition will not only a good gift, but will also add fabulousness and magic to the New Year’s interior.
