The most common images of girls at New Year's and other children's costume parties are snowflakes, squirrels, fairies, and princesses. If you want to be original and experiment, choose Magpie!

Do-it-yourself development will require imagination and imagination. And the baby in such an outfit will look stylish and bright.

Making a Magpie Costume

Ah, white-sided magpie!
Wears a dress very strictly
Black top, white side
Forty's favorite style!
Long tail, nimble, talkative,
She loves glitter amazingly!

Characteristic features of a magpie: dark top, white sides, lots of shiny decorations.

Suitable materials for making your own magpie costume: fabric, paper and even black plastic bags.

Two ways to sew

Let's look at how to create an image of a magpie based on everyday clothes with the addition of details of the image: a cape or curly sleeves. Let's make wings, a tail and add a cap.

Cape - cape

We will need white dress from the wardrobe of a little fashionista. We will cut out a cape for it from fabric - a cape, which will imitate wings.

You will need black lining silk or other lightweight fabric. Cut out a circle with curly edges along the bottom and make a hole for the neck. Additionally, you can decorate the cape with a small bib, which is made according to the principle of a child's bib. This is the white breast of a bird.

Sew triangular pieces on top of the fabric to imitate plumage. You can cover the entire cape with feathers made from paper, textiles or plastic bags. It will take time, but the effect is worth it.

The second way to do it yourself is to sew imitation wings and feathers onto a blouse, T-shirt or turtleneck. Any tight-fitting blouse will do white. Sew lush multi-layered flounces made of black tulle or pieces of any available fabric in black and light colors similar to plumage onto the sleeves.

These wings will require a skirt.
You can sew a fluffy gathered or multi-tiered skirt. In the first case, you will need a strip of fabric that extends from the waist to just above the knees. The fabric is gathered along the waist line with a belt or elastic band.

For multi-layering, take several strips of fabric different lengths. The shortest strip is sewn to the belt. The next length is sewn to the first part and so on.

Complete the skirt with a small apron with a pocket like a white-sided magpie.

Bright and holiday option- a pack of organza or tulle. It can be sewn from a single piece of fabric or simply tied with multi-colored stripes onto an elastic belt. If they are of different lengths, this will only add color to the image.

For a birdtail, tie long, wide satin ribbons behind your back. The tail can also be sewn separately. It is better to do it using the same technique as the wings. It can be removable or sewn to the belt. If you made wings completely trimmed with feathers, make the tail the same. It will be very beautiful.

The skirt with a train also resembles a bird's tail. The train, like the pack, can be made of black stripes.

Making a magpie's cap

The simplest headdress for a magpie outfit is fluffy black and white bows or a headband with a suitable image.
If you have a black baseball cap in your wardrobe, make a headdress out of it. Cut the visor so that it resembles a bird's beak. Cover it with leather or cardboard. On top part caps, sew on the eyes. You can use the details for soft toys, which are sold in handicraft stores. Complete the cap with a large one beautiful bow polka dots.

You can sew a magpie cap. First, make a base cap (1) from thin knitted fabric. Glue a paper beak and feathers onto it (2).

For big fashionistas, you can make a cute miniature top hat. Cut out the fields, crown and bottom from cardboard. Glue the parts together and cover them with satin or velvet ribbon. Add feathers, tulle, ribbons, and beads as decoration.

We complement the image with accessories

In children's literature, the white-sided magpie is often depicted wearing a colorful scarf. At the holiday, it will probably be inconvenient for the child to move with a headscarf on his head, so tie it gypsy style at the waist. A bright scarf will dilute the monochrome tones of the outfit and add color to the heroine.

Magpie loves everything bright and shiny. Sew a cute little bag in which she will put everything that glitters. Make a small pocket, sew loops in the upper part and thread a cute lace through them. Decorate the bag with any appliqués, beads, ribbons - as your imagination tells you.

Well, and most importantly, without which it is difficult to imagine a magpie fashionista - jewelry, beads, bracelets, earrings. You can collect suitable ones from your mother’s box or make decorations from rowan trees if the event takes place in the fall.

As a make-up, you can draw a small funny bird on the child’s cheek. Use face painting on water based, it fits well on the skin and is easily washed off with soap and water.

So the magpie costume is ready with your own hands. In this outfit you can go to the Autumn Festival, New Year, and any costumed event.

There are so many costumes that mothers have to make while their children are growing up. Once you find out that your daughter doesn’t need a magpie costume, you shouldn’t worry. We will tell you what materials you will need for it and describe the manufacturing scheme itself.

Components of the outfit

We will make only three parts: wings, scarf and beak. We'll take all the other components of a magpie costume for a girl ready-made. So, look in your fashionista’s wardrobe for a white blouse or T-shirt (it must have short sleeves) and a black skirt.

Making wings for an outfit

For this part of the magpie costume you will need to purchase:

  • Lining fabric in two colors: black (80 cm) and white (60 cm).
  • Black and white threads.
  • A needle.
  • Scissors.
  • Regular elastic band - 15 cm.

Taking a black fabric, fold it in half lengthwise to get two canvases, the width of which will be approximately 40 cm. The length can reach one and a half meters. Next, you need to measure the length of the girl’s arms, making sure to add 10-15 centimeters to the result obtained. This is done so that the wings cover the children's palms and hang down slightly. Once you've decided on the size, feel free to cut out the black wings for your magpie costume.

It is in the same way that white wings are prepared. The only difference is that they should be made narrower and shorter, unlike the black ones, so that after sewing together, the latter can be seen from under the white wings. By the way, in white ones the middle is then cut out. The wings are sewn together with white threads.

All that remains is to sew an elastic band on the back side - to secure the wings on the palm and prevent them from sliding off when the child moves. And the last thing: sew the resulting part to the outfit itself.

If you plan to perform in a Sorokin costume at a New Year's party, then you can use tinsel to decorate it. Other wing options are also possible.

Sewing a scarf

We stock up on the following necessary materials:

  • White calico (70 cm).
  • Black lining fabric (should remain from the wings).
  • Glue gun.
  • Scissors.
  • White satin ribbon.
  • White threads.
  • With a needle.

From the purchased piece of fabric you need to cut an isosceles triangle. If you have time, the scarf can be decorated with a satin ribbon sewn along the contour. If there is none, then it is hemmed manually or by machine.

Remember, we still have black fabric in stock. She will go to cutting out circles. Their number is arbitrary. These circles are glued to the scarf with hot glue. You see that making a magpie costume with your own hands is not at all difficult.

Making a beak for an outfit

Here the main material will be black cardboard. It is rolled into a narrow cone and glued together. Be sure to try it on so that the size of this part matches the child’s nose. The glued cone is trimmed if necessary. In the upper part, do not forget to pierce a couple of holes on the side so that the child can breathe.

The beak can also be made slightly open. Then you need to cut out another narrow piece in the shape of a triangle (it should be shorter than the length of the beak) and glue it at the bottom. To put on the beak, use a thin rubber band.

You can make a tail by analogy with wings. Only its dimensions should be smaller. The materials you will need are a small piece of fabric (you need black and white). From this segment we will cut out one tail (black, long), another white tail (short) and the last one should be black, it will be the smallest. They are all cut out by eye; no templates are required for this.

After connecting the tail parts, they are stitched together. Then the ponytail is sewn on the back of the dress or skirt (depending on what will be used as the basis for the outfit). For decoration, you can trim the hem of the dress with white tinsel. Since our heroine is crazy about everything shiny, the use of beads and other bright decorations will come in handy.

If you don't like this black and white version of the outfit, you can work on creating a cartoon image. In this case, you will need a white blouse, a bright skirt and scarf, as well as an apron.

If the outfit is intended for a boy, then the simplest solution would be to sew fringe to a black turtleneck (jacket), and sew a beak and eyes on top of the hood.

We tried to consider in detail how to make a magpie costume . Perhaps you will supplement it with some of your own interesting ideas. We hope that your daughter will feel great in this wonderful look.

Today we had a matinee in our kindergarten - “Holy Spring”. My daughter was given the role of a magpie. First, of course, I went to rent costumes, but what they offered me was quite scary. So I decided to make the costume myself. Almost all photos are “home”, taken on different stages tailoring a suit.

there are more than 5 photos under the cut

I took the skirt that I sewed for the New Year's party (), carefully tore off the yellow ribbon and sewed on a black one, + hand-sewed a black tulle on top (longer than the skirt itself), and a polka-dot ribbon on it.

I sewed a T-shirt from velvet (two rectangles), sewed a beaded frill on it (I wove it a long time ago) and white lace. Since the frill itself is quite heavy, I also sewed small straps from ribbons (they were not visible, they were hidden under the bolero).

I sewed the bolero according to a pattern from the Internet, treated the open sections with bias tape (oh, if only someone had taught me how to sew it on correctly), the cuffs were the remains of a polka dot ribbon from the skirt, the wings and tail were folded satin ribbon, sewn on by hand, it was easily sewn you can unpick and wear a bolero in everyday life. I immediately sewed the wing ribbon onto the bolero

and first collected the tail separately.

here the tail is a little visible

I also made this elastic band from leftover ribbons, but in the end it wasn’t worn.

I wanted to make a beak, but I didn’t like the idea of a beak sticking out of the forehead, and I couldn’t figure out how else to make it. A couple of days before the matinee I received, and there were black and white hairpins, so I decided to put them on my head))))

Most of the materials were found at home, purchased - black tulle, black satin ribbon (for the bottom of the skirt, wings and tail), black polka dot ribbon, I also bought a hairpin with black feathers, but it was not used. The teachers said that the costume was very original, and that they had never had such a magpie (and they have been working in the kindergarten for a long time). By the way, for some reason, in all the magpie costumes, the children have a white frill on the chest, although the bird itself has a black breast, and there is white on the tummy below, on the back and on the tips of the wings. Therefore, our costume is not entirely “correct”, but we all really liked it)))

And here are all our children

We will make only three parts: wings, scarf and beak. We'll take all the other components of a magpie costume for a girl ready-made. So, look in your fashionista’s wardrobe for a white blouse or T-shirt (it must have short sleeves) and a black skirt.

How to make a magpie costume

When I found out that my daughter was going to New Year magpie, once again sighed and thought, but that’s why, someone is snowflakes and you can dress up your daughter in a beautiful dress, make festive rubber bands for her from ribbons, and we are either pigs, then foxes, then bad weather aunties, now here are magpies) . And all because we need to learn a lot of words, so we get such roles. My daughter is following my path; as a child, I was given the longest poems and roles where you need to remember a lot of words.

Well, well, forty, then forty. I went to a handicraft store where we rent New Year’s costumes, asked if there was a magpie costume, there was one, but what kind... something completely different, I didn’t like this option and I decided to sew a magpie costume myself . Although I don’t know how to sew, so I’ll immediately reassure the mothers who read this and say, we don’t know how to sew, I don’t know how either, honestly).

I scoured the Internet in search of detailed information, how can I make it for my daughter? New Year's suit magpies, but I didn’t find anything worthwhile for myself, only in this way did I clarify some thoughts for myself. There are many ready-made options there, beautiful costumes, but no one tells you how to sew them), I’ll have to correct the situation, help out the poor parents whose children will get the role of a magpie at the holiday.

So, we will make a white-sided magpie costume very cheaply. At least I did my best to do this. The most important things we will need to do are the wings, scarf and beak. The rest will be ready for us.

Everyone has a white blouse with short sleeve(you can wear a T-shirt) and a black skirt. We have a one-piece dress that has been lying around for two whole years and has not been worn even once, who would have thought that it would later make an excellent costume for a magpie). And the color matched it perfectly - black and white and the sleeves were short so that I could sew on the wings later.

How to make magpie wings

For the wings, I bought the cheapest lining fabric, well, judge for yourself, buying an expensive one just to use it for 40 minutes, no, that’s not for me.

  • Black lining fabric - 80 cm
  • White lining fabric 60 cm
  • Threads black and white
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Regular elastic band 15 cm

Unfortunately, I didn’t film this stage, because as I wrote above, I wasn’t going to write an article about it, because I did it all at random, and I didn’t know what would happen. But I made sketches on paper, and now I’ll tell you everything in detail.

We take black lining fabric, ours is 80 cm, fold it in half lengthwise to make two canvases, their size will be approximately 40 width and length, depending on the fabric, up to 1.5 m maybe. Now we measure the length of your child’s arm from the shoulder and add 10-15 cm to this size so that the wings can cover the child’s palms and hang down a little.

For black wings, with my daughter’s dimensions, I needed two canvases 40 cm wide and 80 cm long. I didn’t have any template for cutting out the wings; I cut them out right away on the fabric, just as I imagined and cut them out. If you are afraid of ruining the fabric, make a template on cardboard, only you will need a very large sheet of cardboard, draw a wing on it and then cut it out by applying it to the fabric. Cut out two black wings to your measurements.

In the same way, we cut out two white wings from white lining fabric, but they should be narrower in size and shorter in length than the black ones, so that later when we sew them to each other, the black wings are clearly visible from under the white ones.

I will not indicate the sizes here, you must adjust them based on the size of the black wings. The only difference in the white wings is to cut out the middle later. When you cut out the wings from white fabric, cut out the middle of both, in the sketch I drew the cut out area shaded.

Now we put the white wings with the middle cut out on the black ones and sew them on using white threads. I sewed everything by hand, although we have sewing machine, but it’s easier for me this way).

I recommend carefully burning the wings, just don’t burn them) so that they don’t fray, although this fabric doesn’t fray much, there is still a tendency for this, so to make the wings look neat, I burned them with matches, we will need a lot of them. You can also use a candle, but I felt uncomfortable with a candle. Now we sew an elastic band on the back side so that the wings are secured to the palm and they do not slip when moving.

It's time to sew the magpie's wings onto a dress, or blouse, or white T-shirt. I just attached the wings to the dress, but so that they would not come off, of course, at the matinee itself, then after the matinee, we calmly and carefully removed the wings from the clothes and we will wear a dress, and someone else a blouse.

It is possible to decorate the wings, if the costume is intended for New Year's party decorate with thin tinsel. If this is a different holiday, then tinsel is not needed. You can see in the photo that I sewed tinsel onto the wings, where we have a cutout on the white wings, and the tinsel runs along the contour.

How to sew a scarf for a magpie

You've probably noticed that in cartoons a magpie or a crow often wears a headscarf, so I thought it was best option and the simplest one, you don’t need to buy a magpie cap separately, which by the way costs 700 rubles, just a cap with a beak and eyes. And our entire ready-made magpie costume will barely cost 300 rubles). So look how profitable it is to do everything yourself, the savings are significant.

I was in some thought about what material to use for the scarf. I immediately imagined a white scarf with large polka dots, but where can I get such ready-made material? I went around all the fabric stores in our city, fortunately there are not many of them, I found a more or less suitable material with polka dots, but a meter of it cost 250 rubles, no, well, that’s a lot for 40 minutes for a headscarf, I thought. And she got out of the situation in a different way. For the scarf we need:

  • Buy 70 cm of white calico
  • Black lining fabric (remnants from black wings)
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • White satin ribbon 5 cm wide - about 3 m
  • White threads, needle

Don’t think, dear readers, that I’m some kind of miser, I just think about the family budget, and I see the main and secondary things that need to be spent on, and what can be replaced with something cheaper. I hope you are mine budget ideas You will also like it.

With a scarf, everything is very simple, we take a purchased piece of fabric and cut out an isosceles triangle from it, and this is the one whose opposite sides are equal. This is where geometry comes in handy, friends).

And now we need to sew a satin ribbon along the contour to the scarf, this is for beauty, you can do without it, if you don’t have time, then just trim the scarf so that it looks neat, or hem it by hand if you don’t have a machine. I also sewed the ribbon by hand, I gathered it together for beauty, look at the photo. Keep in mind that we only sew ribbons on both sides. From white satin ribbon 5 cm wide you can create a lot of beautiful things, for example, kanzashi daisies.

Now we cut out black circles from the remnants of the black lining fabric, for this I found a tiny measuring cup, it seems from cough syrup, and I traced it, then cut it out. You cut out the circles at your discretion. I didn't count their number.

Now you need to glue the circles onto the scarf using hot glue, you can sew them on, but it takes a long time, and I don’t have any time), I also save it))). The polka dot scarf for the magpie is ready. For beauty, I made a white bow with black polka dots; the technology for making such a bow is described in my article Kanzashi bows.

How to make a magpie beak

Now you need to make the most important attribute of the magpie - the beak. For this we need black cardboard. We roll it into a narrow cone and glue it, try it on so that it fits the size of your child’s nose. Glue the cone together and trim if necessary. Be sure to use a thin drill or something sharp to pierce two holes on the sides on top so that your child can breathe.

My husband suggested that I make a slightly open beak for the magpie and I agreed. we cut out another narrow triangle in length slightly shorter than the beak itself and glue it to the bottom, my daughter painted the inside of this lower beak red. So that the beak can be put on, you will need a thin rubber band, well, you have all probably seen what kind of rubber bands and how masks cling. We had white elastic threads at home, so we used them.

How to make a tail for a magpie costume

I made the tail similarly to the wings, only it is much smaller in size, and the principle of its creation is exactly the same as the wings; for the tail we need quite a bit of black and white fabric. Since there is only one tail, we cut out only three parts: one longer black tail, one shorter white one, and the third small black one, even smaller in size than the white one. I don’t indicate the dimensions, I did everything by eye and cut it out without a template.

Now we fold the parts of the tail, as shown in the photo, and sew them to each other. Then we sew the tail on the back of the dress or skirt; for beauty and neatness, I attached a bow a little higher than the sewn tail, so the tail looked more interesting. It turned out that I only made two bows, for the scarf and for the tail.

I also trimmed the bottom of the dress with white tinsel for beauty, but that’s whatever you want.

Well, today I described to you in detail how to make a magpie costume, I attached a photo, if you have any questions, write, don’t be shy, I’ll tell you, I’ll help you, what I know.

Still, it’s a fascinating activity, making costumes for heroes without any idea of what the end result will be, or rather imagining it, but not quite, because all the thoughts came to me as I was creating this costume. In general, my friends and acquaintances said that the magpie is very similar to itself, it’s not for me to judge, see for yourself what happened in the end. Maybe in the process of creating a magpie costume you will come up with some new interesting ideas.

With respect and love, Elena Kurbatova.
