30 ideas how to make an autumn wreath with your own hands - from leaves, cones and other materials updated: October 17, 2016 by: Margarita Glushko

Golden autumn inspires creative exploits! We invite you and your child to make an autumn wreath of cones and acorns. Remember how fun it is to collect them? Take a basket with you and go for a walk in the park.

In order to make a wreath, you will need 5 items:

  • foam base for wreath
  • jute fabric ribbon
  • cones
  • acorns
  • glue gun
  • scissors

Attention!

Before you start collecting a wreath, acorns and cones need to be processed. Rinse the acorns, separate from the caps and bake for 2 hours on a baking sheet covered with foil at a temperature of 200 degrees. Baked acorns do not rot and do not attract insects.

Cones also need to be baked to harden the resin. You can put them on a baking sheet with acorns. Bake the cones for 1 hour.

Step 1

We wrap the foam base with jute tape. We fix the tape with a glue gun.

Step 2

After finishing the winding, we fix the end of the tape with a glue gun and cut off the excess part of the tape.

Step 3

Cut off excess threads. The base is ready.

Step 4

Attach a loop holder. With its help, the wreath will be attached to the wall or door.

Step 5

Let's start decorating the wreath.

This step can be done with your child: you work with a glue gun, and your son or daughter attaches cones and acorns to the base.

A few decorating tips:

  • Stack the elements tightly to make the wreath beautiful.

  • First, work out large sections of the wreath, and only then fill in the remaining space.

  • There will still be a small distance between the base and the decorative elements. Disguise it with small acorns.

  • Glue cones and acorns to the sides of the wreath.

The wreath is ready! You can hang it on the wall, decorate the door with it, or put it on the table with a candle inside.

In recent years, crafts such as a wreath of cones for the New Year have become very popular. In the West, this tradition has been pleasing children and adults for a very long time, but in our country it appeared relatively recently and very quickly took root. This is not surprising, because a New Year's cone wreath made with love can decorate any home - it looks great on the walls, entrance and interior doors, it can even be placed among the dishes on the festive table, and its amazing aroma creates a festive mood.

History of Christmas wreaths

The tradition of decorating a house for Christmas and New Year with coniferous wreaths came to us from Europe. A master Christian makes a wreath of cones for the New Year from spruce branches, complemented by 4 candles arranged crosswise. As you know, Christmas is preceded by Advent - a 24-day fast, and on every Sunday of this fast it was customary to light one candle on a wreath.

Several centuries ago, a Lutheran theologian, Johann Wiechern, lived in Europe. To help families in need, he took their children to his upbringing. When the Christmas fast came, the impatient children constantly asked the mentor, when will the long-awaited Christmas come? Then the idea came to him to make a plant wreath by inserting 24 candles there. He used a wheel as a frame, and inserted 20 small red and large white candles into the decoration. Every day he lit one red candle, and on Sunday a white one. Then, as usual, the wreath was modernized (4 candles remained) and acquired a symbolic meaning from believers - coniferous branches began to denote the Earth, teeming with life, and 4 candles to personify the universe.

What cones to choose for a New Year's wreath?

Looking at the photo of New Year's wreaths of cones, you can understand that there may be a variety of cones: spruce and pine, cedar and larch - they are all so beautiful, as if created by nature for artistic use. You just need to apply a little creative imagination to this environmentally friendly natural material to make unique decorations for the winter holiday. Moreover, this chic ornamental material does not need to be bought, but to combine the useful with the pleasant - collecting cones in a park or forest with a wonderful walk.

If there are already cones in the forest, then there are a lot of them, so when collecting them, you need to choose the most beautiful or with an unusual shape, which can also come in handy. In addition to the cones, you will also need to collect coniferous branches.

Keep in mind that spruce needles will shed faster than longer pine needles, which will last longer.

If you find only closed cones, don't worry. Put them on a warm battery overnight, and by morning they will open like flowers on a summer morning.

What should be done with the cones?

The instructions on how to make a New Year's wreath of cones indicate that the collected material requires simple preparation - all the cones must be washed in water, washing off particles of dirt from them, and then dried thoroughly.

Cones prepared in this way can be used in their natural form - with natural colors, or they can be dyed, especially since they can be easily dyed.

The cone can be tied to a thread and completely immersed in the paint of the desired color, or the cone can be painted manually with a brush.

You can use spray paints.

If, before making a New Year's wreath of cones, paint them, you get this beauty:

Bud Lightening

To lighten the bump, you need:

  • For 5 hours, lower it into a container with household bleach.
  • After that, rinse it in plenty of water and dry it completely (you can put them in the oven at a low temperature to speed up the process).

Covering the buds with glitter

Gold-plated, silver-plated or glitter-covered cones look gorgeous. To do this, you need a brush and PVA glue.

  • Apply glue with a brush to the “petals” of the cone and immediately sprinkle with sparkles.
  • You can shower only the tips of the cones, or you can cover the entire surface.
  • Wait for the glue to dry a little before shaking loose glitter onto paper to reuse.

Aroma of cones

For those who think that the New Year's wreath of pine cones does not spread a bright enough aroma, you can treat them with cinnamon, sandalwood, in general, with any flavor that suits your taste.

Sometimes the bump is difficult to attach or stick to the base. Then, at the bottom of the cone, you can remove a few scales with pliers or another handy tool to get a flat base, with which it will be much easier to fix it.

New Year's wreath from a hanger

This is a very simple version of making a New Year's wreath. It will require a clothes hanger made of bending wire.

  1. Leaving the hook of the hanger alone, the coat hanger should be bent into a ring shape.
  2. At one end, the wire will have to be untwisted in order to string cones on it.
  3. Cones can be decorated by painting in a bright, for example, golden color.
  4. Glue small plastic rings to the cones, with which you string them on the warp wire, evenly distributing them around the entire perimeter of the wreath.
  5. Having filled the entire perimeter with cones, the wire must be twisted again.
  6. Decorate the upper part of the wreath with a beautiful accessory that covers the wire hook, for example, with a lush red bow.
  7. With the remaining hook, the wreath can be hung on a door or wall.

New Year's wreath of cones with tinsel

You can often see that cones are combined with Christmas balls and tinsel. These Christmas accessories are not in short supply, but look very elegant and bright.

Materials and tools

  • Pine cones collected in the nearby forest.
  • Christmas balls.
  • Tinsel.
  • Glitter jewelry.
  • Thick cardboard (as in shoe boxes).
  • stapler.
  • PVA glue.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Thermal gun.

Manufacturing

  1. Lay out the flattened cardboard on the table.
  2. If there is no compass in the house, then take 2 pot lids of different sizes and circle them with a pencil or 2 plates of different sizes.

  1. Then, with a clerical knife or scissors, cut out the cardboard ring along the outlined contours.

  1. Attach a piece of lush tinsel of your preferred color to it with a stapler.
  2. Then you need to attach balls and cones to the workpiece - they are attached with a thermal gun closer to the inside of the ring. Although you can use any balls, it is more convenient to work with plastic ones.

  1. The wreath can also be decorated with figurines of Santa Claus, Snow Maiden, small plastic figurines of animals.
  2. To make the wreath even more festive and bright, the surface of the balls can be treated with glue and sprinkled with sequins manually or from a spray bottle.
  3. At the end, the wreath can be twined with a beautiful satin ribbon, after which the New Year's decoration will only have to be placed in its intended place.

By the same principle, you can create a New Year's wreath of cones - we show you step by step with a photo, and explanations are superfluous here:

Christmas wreath with cones and candies

  • Decorative elements (bows, ribbons, beads, etc.).
  • Plastic Christmas balls of different sizes and colors.
  • Double sided tape.

  • Foam rubber.

Manufacturing

  2. Carefully smooth out the irregularities formed along the edges of the ring with scissors.
  3. Then wrap the ring with a bandage, leaving no gaps.
  4. Spray the glitter onto the buds, then glue them to the base.
  5. Fix the balls and ribbons between the cones with adhesive tape.
  6. As a sweet decoration, it is most convenient to use truffle candies - it is easy to stick a piece of double-sided tape on their flat base, and the opposite side with a twist will additionally decorate the New Year's wreath.

Or another version of the New Year's cone wreath master class:

Christmas wreath with fir cones

Fir cones are no less beautiful than pine cones, you can also come up with many original compositions from them, in which pine or spruce branches will look harmoniously with them.

Materials and tools

  • Fir cones (you can combine them with pine cones).
  • Fir branches.
  • Decor in the form of beads, ribbons, etc.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue gun.
  • stapler.
  • Brown spray paint.
  • Scotch.
  • Newspaper.

Manufacturing

  1. You can spend money and buy a ready-made base, but you can also save money by making it yourself, for which twist the newspaper into a long tube, bend it with a ring, and fasten the edges with a stapler.
  2. Wrap the resulting workpiece with additional strips cut from the same newspaper, and then secure the ring shape with adhesive tape.
  3. The adhesive tape needs to be hidden by treating it with spray paint.
  4. Glue cones tightly around the entire perimeter of the ring.
  5. Decorate the resulting wreath to your taste, you can cover it with varnish or paint, although natural shades will look gorgeous.

New Year's wreath based on newspapers

In this version, newsprint or magazine paper is used to make the base of the wreath.

  1. Several sheets of paper need to be twisted, closed in a ring and wrapped with tape.

Try to keep the thickness of this ring in different places the same.

  1. Use a hot glue gun to cover the entire ring with a paper towel.

  1. Cut a 1.5-meter strip 15 cm wide from organza. Wrap the base with this tape and fix its ends with a glue gun.
  2. After that, wrap the frame with green rain imitating spruce branches.

  1. Attach larger specimens of cones with a glue gun in the center of the base, and smaller ones will fit for the edges.

You should not strive to glue the cones closely, because other decorations can be placed in the gaps between them: Christmas decorations, beads, cinnamon sticks, ribbons, and complete the decoration with a large beautiful bow.

By the same principle, we will show another master class step by step New Year's wreath of cones:

DIY autumn interior decoration

Master class "Autumn wreath of cones and acorns"

Tasks:

Develop children's creativity, imagination, taste;

Cultivate accuracy in work

The master class is calculated for students in grades 5-6, as well as for teachers and parents.

This wreath is suitable for decorating the front door. Can serve as a great gift for you.

One day in the park in autumn

We met the spider.

He sat, extremely important,

In the center of the gossamer shawl.

Only the wind suddenly broke,

Twirled everything, roared!

The spider could not resist -

Fly away with a cobweb!

Necessary materials:

For the wreath:

· old newspaper

thermal gun

a strip of colored corrugated paper

· PVA glue

For the web:

4 straight sticks of the same length and thickness

Rope

Scissors

Thermal gun

For the spider:

8 small sticks twisted in the middle

2 chokeberry berries

2 acorn caps

Thermal gun

Progress

We take an old newspaper and fold it into a bundle.

With the help of glue we connect the ends of the bundle into a circle

The resulting circle is wrapped with thin colored paper. So that the newspaper was not visible.

We fix the tip of colored paper with glue. The base of the wreath is ready.

We heat up the thermostat. We drip hot glue on the acorn, and while the glue has not cooled down, we fix it on the outside of the circle. I got 3 rows. 2 on top and one on the side.

In the same way we fix the cones, alternating them with acorns on the inside of the circle. Keep in mind that if you have closed buds, they will eventually open from the heat, so leave some room for them to open up.

We take 4 sticks and connect them in the middle, so that we get a "snowflake". Drip hot glue to the junction of the sticks.

Now we take the rope. We tie it to any of the sticks, stepping back from the center 1 cm. Stretches it to the nearest stick, wraps the rope around it and pulls the rope to the next one. We repeat this until the circle is complete. We connect the ends with a regular knot. We cut the ends. We retreat 1 cm, tie the rope, stretch it to the next stick, wrap it, then to the next ... next ... we close the circle with a knot.

So we repeat a few more times. The web is ready.

With the help of a thermal gun, we fix 2 caps from acorns on the shiny side of the chestnut, we fix chokeberry berries in them. We got spider eyes. It remains to give him legs. We turn the chestnut over, fix 8 sticks with hot glue. 4 on one side, 4 on the other.

We fix the spider in the middle of the web.

Apply hot glue to all ends of the web. We connect together the web with the back of the wreath.

You can decorate with dry leaves. You can sew a loop of ribbon, then the wreath can be hung on the door. You can sew a few silver bells to the cobweb, it will look like dew, which will tinkle pleasantly when the door opens.

I have a tree that I have at home and at work. This is one of my first creations in the field of topiary, which I left to myself. And I thought it would be nice to do something similar, but already from decoration on a wall or door Moreover, autumn is not over yet, you can collect materials, and you can decorate the house for the New Year holiday with such decoration. So I decided to make a wreath!

I bought the basis for a wreath (foam circle) where a year and a half ago and I started making a coffee theme that I loved at that time, a coffee wreath. But I didn’t have enough patience and interest for it and this unfinished wreath lay everywhere!
And now it's useful to me!
I peeled off all the grains, repainted and set to work!

But we collected this round over an acorn in Turkey. When the bus stopped for a rest and everyone went according to their needs, some to perkur, I personally went to PARADISE. To the paradise of such little bumps.
From the beginning, I began to collect in my palm, but all the cones in this forest did not fit in my small palm and we went for the package. This saved the situation a little.
Having collected a little, I happily went to rest on the sea.
But, how lucky I was when the bus stopped there on the way back of our vacation :) :) :)

And so, let's get down to MK. Making a wreath is very simple!
For this we need:

  • foam circle (can be replaced with crumpled paper wrapped with threads)
  • dye
  • cones
  • acorns
  • nut shell
  • beads
  • leg-split.

1. We paint the base in a color close to the materials that we will use in the work.

2. Glue cones, acorns, nuts.

3. We fill the voids with coffee beans, small acorns, and beads.
On the right side of the wreath they are, on the left they are not.

4. We wrap a wreath with twine and make bows from the same material.

Before I started making a wreath, I thought that it would go on sale. But when cones and acorns were glued a little on the base, I realized that I would keep the wreath for myself.
I plan to make the same Christmas tree for the New Year!

And a few more photos for the autumn mood!
