There are probably no people in the world who have not seen cones. But few people know that this natural gift makes fantastic DIY crafts from pine cones. To create them you will need a little free time, a little desire, a little imagination and, of course, some creativity. And then unique decorations will appear in the house.

Making roses from pine cones is not difficult, but the result will be amazing. For this craft you will need:

  • Pine cones;
  • even thin branches of any tree;
  • corrugated or scrap paper;
  • scissors, paints;
  • brush with long bristles;
  • Super glue.

The cones are washed and dried, then painted in different colors

Tree branches are trimmed, cut to the required length and painted green

Leaves are made from paper (felt) for each rose branch.

We collect flowers. Glue a pine cone to the upper end of the branch, and leaves below

When the flowers are dry, they are placed in a vase. This is the adorable craft we created from pine cones with our own hands!

Teddy bear and Christmas tree

To make a bear cub from fir cones you will need the following materials:

  • medium sized lump;
  • half-opened small cones – 4 pcs.;
  • large open lump;
  • peppercorns;
  • acorns;
  • alder cones;
  • birch bark;
  • wooden cut for the base;
  • awl, knife, scissors, glue, varnish;
  • sandpaper.

For the body, use a long cone. Other cones (bear's paws) will be attached to it using the “scale under scale” method. Before connecting the cones, they are moistened with glue. The bumps on the front legs should be smaller than the hind legs. For the head, use an open cone. Use acorns for the ears and nose. To shape the eyes and tip of the nose, you can use black peppercorns. To make the bear figurine stable, it is glued to a wooden cut.

A Christmas tree is made in a similar way. To make it resemble natural spruce, it is painted green. So our delightful DIY pine cone craft is ready!

Miracle Gnome

To make gnomes you will need:

  • medium sized cones;
  • two beads (wooden or plastic with a diameter of 2-3 cm with a hole);
  • felt fabric;
  • needle with thread;
  • scissors and felt-tip pen.

For the gnome's hat you will need felt fabric; the height of the hat can be any - 6 cm or more. Cut a triangle from the fabric, fold it into a cone and sew it. You'll get a hat

Heart-shaped mittens are cut out of the same fabric and glued to the pine cone.
The gnome's legs can also be made from felt, or from plasticine for stability.

Draw eyes and a smile on the bead with a felt-tip pen. Glue a hat to it. And glue the bead itself to the top of the cone

Graceful swan

To make a swan from cones with feathers, you will need the following materials:

  • pine cone;
  • plasticine;
  • feathers from any poultry (chickens, ducks);
  • laser disc;
  • stacks.

At the beginning of the work, plasticine is rolled out into a flagellum 11 cm long. One end of the flagellum is attached to the bottom of the cone and bent to the shape of the bird’s neck. The head is located at the second end of the flagellum

A swan's beak is formed from red plasticine and attached to the head

The bird's eyes are made of blue or black plasticine in the form of small balls

The swan's tail is made from white feathers. They are inserted between the scales of the cone and secured with plasticine.
Here we have our graceful, handsome man!

Turning a pine cone into a mouse

The mouse is one of the most beloved children's characters. Therefore, having pine cones and plasticine, let’s make a cute mouse.

So, we will need:

  • one pine cone;
  • plasticine (white);
  • stacks;
  • board for working with plasticine.

Instructions:

  1. Take a small piece of white plasticine. Using a cutting stick lying at hand, cut it into 3 pieces. The width of each should be about 1 cm. Each honor will be used for specific purposes. The first piece will be used to create the ears, the second - for the paws, the third - for the tail.
  2. Take the first strip and carefully roll it out into a sausage shape. It is advisable to roll out evenly. This is how we get a mouse tail
  3. The second strip should be divided into four pieces. We do this using the “rolling” method, after which we make four short sausages
    These will be our mouse paws.
  4. Divide the third piece in half. As a result, we have two blanks for the mouse ears. Now we use the “rolling” method
    We get two identical balls.
  5. Flatten them into a flat cake
  6. Using the “pinching” method, we press one side of our workpiece. We do this with both flatbreads. As a result, we get a blank for the ears
  7. Glue the ears to the pine cone. Using a stack, press the plasticine onto the bump. And to make the mouse even more attractive and very similar to the real one, we draw stripes inside the ears in a stack
  8. Then we attach the paws to our mouse
  9. Now we glue the tail
  10. Now it’s time to decorate the mouse with eyes and a nose. The eyes can be made with blue plasticine: to do this, roll two small balls, the nose can be made red. To do this, roll a ball and glue it onto the sharp end of the cone.
    Hooray! The cute mouse is ready!

Turning a pine cone into a hedgehog

The mouse is not the only favorite character of kids. Children also love hedgehogs. So he will be our next hero.
So, we will need:

  • Pine cone;
  • plasticine;
  • stacks;
  • board for working with plasticine.

Step-by-step instruction:

Miracle owl made of cones

Now let’s create another masterpiece – an owl from pine cones. The scales of the cones are very similar to the plumage of an owl, so the resemblance of the figurine to a real living bird will be obvious.
So, we will need:

  • a large pine cone (we use it for the body);
  • a small pine cone (we’ll make a head out of it);
  • plasticine;
  • stack;
  • pine branch.

Instructions:

Ball of fir cones

Such a ball can not only become a New Year's decoration, but also be a regular apartment decor. It can be mounted on a vase or hung from the ceiling.
To make the decoration you will need:

  • white foam ball;
  • flexible wire to match the color of the pine cones;
  • satin ribbon;
  • Super glue;
  • scissors and pin.

To secure the cones to the foam, a wire is attached to their lower part, its ends are twisted into a spiral, lubricated with glue and inserted into the foam.
You need to glue a ribbon anywhere on the ball, which will allow you to hang the decoration.

A composition of several balloons will look beautiful in a large room.

Candlestick made of pine cone scales

What could be more beautiful than a burning candle wrapped in the scales of a fir cone? Therefore, we will discuss how to make such an excellent masterpiece with your own hands.
So, to make a candlestick you will need the following materials:

  • large ripe cone;
  • thick cardboard;
  • a small glass glass for a candle;
  • heated glue;
  • scissors.

The cone is carefully disassembled into plates. For the base of the candlestick, a circle is cut out of cardboard. The size of the circle should be twice the size of the cup. For a very large circle, one cone is not enough. The first layer of plates is glued onto the circle.

The second layer is applied to the first in the gaps in a checkerboard pattern. This is done in several layers until the desired height of the candlestick is achieved. When finished, the decoration should dry, after which a glass with a candle is placed in its middle. Hooray! An excellent creation is ready!

Baskets of pine cones

To make a miracle basket you will need:

  • about 60 cones;
  • the wire is thick and thin to match the color of the pine cones;
  • Hot melt glue.

To begin, use a thin wire to connect the first row of cones (12 pieces) in a circle. The wire is fixed to the first cone, and to subsequent ones it is attached using the wrapping method. The second ring of cones is made a little smaller (no more than 10 pieces).

Connect the rings together using hot glue. You will need about 10 pine cones per basket handle. The connection of elements is carried out similarly to rings. The bottom of the basket will be thick cardboard, to which the cones are glued to the inside of the basket (bottom up). So our basket with a handle is ready.

But you can make your work easier by not attaching a handle to the basket.

More details about crafts made from pine cones in the video:

Hi all! Do your kids love to make things? And how often do you do this with them? It is important not to interrupt the child’s desire for joint creativity. After all, adults often have no time in a series of endless tasks. And working together will help make your baby your assistant. Or perhaps it will determine his future profession.

Even if you don’t look that far, creativity simply has benefits, developing the child’s motor skills. Do you agree? Then today I will tell you how to make fake pine cones with your own hands.

I've always loved handicrafts. At one time I even crocheted. It was not possible to sell, but I managed to gain something for myself. At first I knitted for my daughter, then I switched to knitting for myself, my husband, my mother... and then, on the eve of the New Year holidays, when it was time to buy Christmas tree decorations, it dawned on me. Why spend a lot of money on decorations when you can decorate something yourself?

What did I come up with then? I tied the balls on the Christmas tree. Two halves at a time, then fastened them with glue. Multicolored! The child was delighted! Of course, we had to buy something in addition, but the budget was significantly saved. It's not even a matter of saving. After all, no one has anything like this.

But, according to tradition, the assortment has to be updated every year. And I wanted something new. This year I want to make New Year's toys from pine cones. Of course, I’ll already involve my daughter! So, when I sat down at the computer to look at the technique of making toys, it turned out that cones are popular not only for the holiday. Here's what you can do with them:

  1. New Year's crafts and decorations.
  2. Home decor.
  3. Various figures of animals.

Don't be surprised that there are only 3 points. I simply combined the variety of souvenirs and crafts that can be made! I want to talk about each point separately, highlighting the main points that I liked. But first, rules for use!

Rules

Living material can change when exposed to different temperatures. In the house they open up like flowers. Here are a few rules:

  1. Wood glue will help prepare the material for work. To prevent the cones from changing their shape, lower them there for 30 seconds. Then take them out, dry them and create!
  2. To create the shape you want, soak the material in warm water. Then pull it out, tie it with a rope, giving it the desired shape, and dry it in this position.
  3. To disassemble the cone into scales, use ordinary wire cutters.

These simple rules will help save time when working with a natural component. Do you remember? Now you can start creating New Year's crafts.

For the new year

In fact, there are a lot of ideas! And you can’t reveal everything at once. Here are a few popular ones that I liked the most:

Christmas tree.

  1. Make a cone out of cardboard.
  2. Then glue the cones so that the open side is facing out. Here's a nuance: closer to the end of the cone, glue the shorter ones. Towards the base - more authentic.
  3. Then use acrylic paint of any color you like to paint the Christmas tree.
  4. Decorate the New Year's beauty with beads, ribbons and other elements. The craft is ready! What options do you have?

What height the Christmas tree should be is up to you to decide. I think any size will decorate the interior for the holiday in the best possible way.

Toys.

What I actually want to produce! It seems to me that pine material would be more suitable here. And the scheme of action is simple:

  1. Paint the collected material with paint. What color do you want? I'm leaning towards snowball silver!
  2. Then dip the product in varnish.
  3. Let's dry!
  4. We decorate the top with an elegant ribbon, by which our composition will hang on a spruce branch. You can attach a small bow, a sprig of rowan and other decoration to this ribbon.

Wreath.

An integral attribute of the holiday! You can hang it on the door, decorate the fireplace, the wall... it’s up to your imagination. What do we need? Base, glue, paint, lots of bumps.

  1. We cut out the base from cardboard in the form of a round donut.
  2. Glue the main attribute.
  3. On top you can add bows, acorns, rowan berries, Christmas tree branches and other beauty. But the branches, however, will soon dry out and the needles will begin to fall off. If you want to use the composition next year, it is better without branches.
  4. Paint and let dry!

The decoration is ready! Now let's see what we can decorate for our home?

Home decor

At any time of the year, pine cone products and crafts will look beautiful at home. Here are some decor options:

Frame forphoto.

  1. We tear off the scales with pliers.
  2. Glue them to the frame.
  3. Let's paint.

If desired, you can add other elements. You can even create a photo collage! What will you come up with?

Vase.

Don't have a vase? No problem! But in every home there is a plastic bottle.

  1. Cut the plastic bottle.
  2. Glue the cone scales or the cones themselves.
  3. Let's paint.

Just imagine how beautiful a bouquet of wildflowers will look here in summer. By the way, you can simply paint the cones in different colors and put them in a glass vase. Or you can make a basket!

Basket.

We will need wire.

  1. With its help, we fasten the cones, one after another, closer to each other.
  2. Let's form a ring like this.
  3. Then we make another such ring.
  4. Glue the rings together.
  5. Using wire we make a handle and glue to the basket.
  6. We make the bottom from cardboard.

In my opinion, a cool gift or souvenir for friends. What do you think?

Candlestick.

  1. You need to cut a circle out of cardboard.
  2. We glue the scales onto the cardboard in staggered layers. Apply a second layer of glue to empty spaces and so on.
  3. We need to achieve heights.
  4. We put a glass inside.

Paint it if you want, or not. That's your business. It will be beautiful either way. Here's another idea.

Topiary.

Do you believe in omens? Then make a tree of happiness.

  1. Form a ball from a piece of foam plastic.
  2. Stick a branch, previously painted with varnish, into it.
  3. Place this branch in any suitable container and fill it with plaster.
  4. Glue the cone elements onto the ball.
  5. Paint it.
  6. Complete the composition with dried flowers, acorns, and ribbons.

How's that for an idea? Will decorate any home and makes a stunning gift! But don’t rush to run into the forest for material! Here are a few more variations for a snack.

Animal figures

This is what is best to do with children. They love crafts and all kinds of animals. Therefore, use your imagination. I suggest making a hedgehog first.

  1. Take a fluffy pine cone.
  2. Pour a piece of plasticine onto the base with which it is attached to the pine tree.
  3. Make a muzzle out of it. Instead of the nose and eyes, you can use black peppercorns.

In this likeness it is possible to make a bear, a bunny, or a mouse. How? Here you need to use at least 5 cones of different sizes. For a smaller head, in the shape of a ball. For the body, more authentic. Make up and imagine with your kids!

As you can see, there are a lot of ideas. Which one will you choose? Perhaps add to my list? What composition or craft would you suggest for collaboration with a child? Leave comments on the article. And become blog subscribers. Bye! Until next time.

Crafts from pine cones: making a candlestick

You will need:

- ripe big pine cone
- thick cardboard
- a small glass for a candle
- scissors
- hot glue.

The cone must be disassembled into plates, this must be done carefully, trying not to damage them. Cut a circle out of cardboard; it will serve as the base for the candlestick. If you make the circle too large, one cone may not be enough. The circle should be twice the diameter of the candle cup. Glue the plates onto the finished circle, in a checkerboard pattern, along the edge. This will be the first layer. Then glue the second layer of plates into the gaps formed between the plates of the first layer. Continue gluing layers until you reach the required height of the candlestick. Allow the product to dry. Insert a glass of candles into the middle. This candlestick can brighten up any evening. You can make other crafts from pine cones in the same way.

Candles and pine cones

Candlestick made of pine cones

Decorating candles with pine cones

Teddy bear made of pine cones

You will need:

- fir cone
- four half-opened pine cones
- an open large pine cone with a rounded crown
- peppercorns
- acorn caps
- alder cones
- light birch bark
- cutting down wood for the base.
- awl
- knife
- sandpaper
- scissors
- glue
- varnish.

The longest fir cone will serve as the bear's body. It is to this that the remaining parts will be attached. The parts of the product must be connected using the “scale under scale” method. That is, when connecting, move the cones so that the scales of one cone fall under the scales of the other. You should first apply glue to them, then they will stick to each other. You can make a Christmas tree and other things in the same way.

The pine cones will serve as paws. The cones for the hind legs should be slightly larger than the front ones.
The head is an open pine cone. The acorn caps will have ears and a nose on it, which should be glued to the highest point of the cone, so the bear’s face will visually stretch forward a little.

Black peppercorns will become the eyes and the tip of the nose. To make the eyes more visible, you need to place pieces of white birch bark under them. Glue the finished bear figurine with glue to a base of cut wood.

Basket of pine cones

You will need:

- pine cones, at least 60 pieces
- thick wire
- thin wire
- hot glue.

First you need to connect 10 or 12 cones in a circle using thin wire. It is better to select the color of the wire closer to the color of the cones, so that it is not noticeable in the future. We fix the wire on the first cone, and then simply wrap the next cone with wire. The bottoms of the pine cones should form the outer edge of the circle.

Then we make another ring, smaller in diameter than the first. For it you will need to take 8 or 10 cones. The basket consists of 2 rings; if necessary, the basket can be made deeper by adding an additional ring.

Fasten the finished rings to each other using hot glue. For the handle, use 8 or 10 cones, connecting them together like rings. Then the handle made of cones is attached to a frame made of thick wire so that it does not lose its shape. The bottom of the basket is a circle made of thick cardboard. Glue 2-3 cones to the bottom, with their lower part facing out.

Any bear, hedgehog, fox, mouse is suitable for a child. Children love making animals. In addition, animals are heroes of folk tales. You can make a whole theater out of these characters that the kid made with his own hands.

Preparation of materials

All elements of natural origin must be collected in dry weather. It is advisable to let them sit indoors for a while until completely dry. After some time, a wet, fresh fir cone will turn from thin to large, open. This needs to be taken into account. If it is necessary to maintain the shape, coating with an aqueous solution is used. Any work begins with preparing everything necessary. In the illustration, which shows a craft made from pine cones, the bear is made in a rather simplified manner. It is made using material collected from under the Christmas tree.

To handle this job, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Find pine cones in the forest or park (one large one for the body, one smaller one for the head, four medium-sized ones for the paws and two identical ones for the ears).
  2. Assemble all the elements as shown in the picture. They can be secured with glue, wire or pins, on the heads of which all the parts are again glued.

  1. Assemble the body from several large elements.
  2. Attach a head from one cone to it.
  3. The ears are made from previously separated scales.
  4. For the paws, also take two elements.
  5. Use white thread to make pompoms: round for the muzzle and cut to shape for the feet and ears. They are produced by winding yarn onto a cardboard blank in the form of a ring, then cutting along the perimeter and pulling it into a ball. Any shape can be obtained using this method.
  6. Attach the pompoms with glue or wire to the desired places.
  7. Install eyes, nose. Decorate with a scarf.

Option 2 is made using a completely different technology. This bear made from cones is very easy to make with your own hands. Take an old soft toy and cover it with pine scales, leaving the paws, inner parts of the ears and muzzle fluffy.

Next is the simplest bear made from pine cones. The photo clearly demonstrates this. Even a child can make such a craft. The cardboard shape can be cut out as one piece or individual elements. In the first case, two cones are used for the body on both sides of the workpiece. In the second version, the legs and head are inserted between the scales and glued.

Beautiful combination

If you don’t have a shortage of materials, feel free to combine them. You will get the same cheerful bear made of pine cones, a sweet couple or a whole family.

So, do the following:

  1. Take a good large fir cone for the body.
  2. Attach an open, flattened pine tree to it as a head.

  5. Use four small pine cones for the paws. Try to strengthen them so that the craft is stable.

Bear made of cones and plasticine

In the previous examples, the elements were connected using glue or wire. The same can be done with plasticine. The most important thing is to use the appropriate color so that it is as invisible as possible among the brown scales. Try to press the elements tightly against each other and take a sufficient amount of plasticine.

By the way, it can also be used as decoration. Then choose any color. It is used to make a muzzle, eyes, ears, and jewelry.

Big bear made of pine cones

If you need monumental interior decoration, use the following sample. This figure is assembled from a huge number of elements. You will have to spend a lot of time in the spruce forest. This type of work is suitable as a collective work.

To build such a sculpture, you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. You make a frame. If you make it using the papier-mâché method, you can use a ready-made solid form of sculpture. Then it will turn out hollow. Newspapers and paper are stuffed inside. It is worth putting something heavier in the lower legs, for example, bars to stabilize the structure. If there is no ready-made wooden bear, it makes sense to create a mold yourself from a mass of paper mixed with plaster, starch or glue. Large forms are also created from polyurethane foam.
  2. At the second stage, the outer layer of cones is made. Of course, you can completely construct a sculpture from them, but in this case you will need a lot more of them. Choose for yourself. In any case, all elements are connected using glue. You can use a heat gun. In it, under the influence of temperature, special glue rods melt and the composition enters the nozzle, from which it is squeezed out to the joint. Work with this tool must be carried out under adult supervision.
  3. When the basic shape is made, decorative elements are made: the muzzle, the inner parts of the ears in the form of pompoms made of thread, as well as a scarf made of any material, natural or artificial.

Now you can make the same magnificent bear from pine cones. The master class will definitely help in creating a sculptural masterpiece.
