Olive oil as a beauty product has been popular for several centuries - it all started in ancient times, when ancient queens and empresses used face masks with olive oil to prolong the freshness and youth of the skin.

Now it remains just as good a remedy for improving the quality of the skin, moisturizing it, and nourishing it.

The benefits and effectiveness of olive oil for the face

It received special recognition as a means for restoring, nourishing and even rejuvenating the skin. Olive oil for a face mask helps

  1. Smoothing wrinkles, folds, light lifting effect;
  2. Nutrition, restoration and hydration of any type of dermis;
  3. Acceleration of regeneration and metabolic processes;
  4. Restoring the firmness and elasticity of the skin, including age-related ones.

This oil owes its remarkable effects to its composition, rich in vitamins. It contains:

  • Vitamins A and E, which together can significantly prolong the youth of skin cells, delay signs of aging, the appearance of the first wrinkles, and smooth out existing ones. Vitamin A (retinol) also improves cell regeneration, accelerates cellular metabolism, and vitamin E (tocopherol) takes care of hydration levels.
  • Vitamin K provides lightening of age spots, in some cases even freckles. It also reduces dark circles under the eyes, which makes it a good idea to use olive oil around the eyes.
  • Vitamin D provides the skin with protection from external negative factors - cold, heat, wind, radiation. It makes it stronger, preventing the possible occurrence of frostbite, peeling, redness, and irritation. It also promotes the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, which are of great importance for the health of the epidermis.

Additional components that enhance the effect

Olive oil-based face masks are often combined with additional ingredients that only improve their effect.

  1. Other carrier or essential oils. You can choose according to your taste. For example, almond, sea buckthorn, jojoba, wheat germ, avocado, peach from the base. Orange, rosemary, lavender, lemon essential oils.
  2. Fruits and vegetables. The division is based on skin type: for dry skin use cucumber, carrots, for normal skin - peach, banana, and for oily and combination skin - various citrus fruits (no more than 2-3 drops per serving).
  3. Gelatin. It is responsible for the synthesis of collagen, a protein that gives the skin elasticity. Gradually, collagen synthesis by our cells decreases, and the easiest way to restore it is to combine the rejuvenating properties of gelatin and olive.
  4. Honey. Honey in facial products is responsible for saturating cells with moisture, nutrients, and has remarkable conductive properties, that is, it only enhances the effect of the oil.

Are there any contraindications?

A face mask made from olive oil at home is good because it has virtually no contraindications - the oil is so gentle and light that it cannot harm. The only thing is that for people who are allergic to olive, such masks are unacceptable.

It can even be used for burns (if you don’t have sea buckthorn on hand), abrasions, and scratches. If you apply too much oil there will be no harm - it is basic, and they are not capable of serious harm. You just need to blot off the excess with a cotton pad or napkin.

In order to improve the condition of facial skin, the oil must be applied in a certain way.

The simplest mask

An easy but no less effective recipe consists only of olive oil. You need to take 1 tbsp, heat it in a water bath and massage it onto your face. The procedure can be carried out almost every day at night, you don’t even have to wash it off, but just go to bed. In the morning, the skin will be fresh, elastic, soft, moisturized. A week-long course of olive masks can relieve flaking and itching.

Attention! To improve the effect, it is better to use warm oil - this way the beneficial substances it contains penetrate into the deeper layers of the epidermis.

Face mask with olive oil and honey

It will be especially effective for ladies with dry, dehydrated or flaky skin. Honey is one of the best moisturizing, toning and regenerating ingredients. Melt 1 tbsp of honey - in a water bath, in the microwave or place it on a radiator, add 0.5 tsp of oil to it. Due to the honey, the composition will have an easy-to-apply consistency - you don’t have to use a brush, but apply it directly with your fingers.

It is best to do it at night 1-2 times a week for a course lasting 2 weeks.

Anti-wrinkle face mask with olive oil

The anti-aging effect is enhanced if you add vitamin A and gelatin to the olive. Gelatin will need 10 grams, vitamin A – 1 ampoule, capsule or five drops of oil solution, depending on the format.

Gelatin requires special preparation. It needs to be dissolved in slightly hot, but not very hot, water until it becomes a homogeneous paste. Gradually add half a teaspoon of oil and vitamin A. The composition should be applied to a clean face, or better yet, steamed in a bath or shower, with a flat brush, since gelatin is difficult to apply with your fingers.

In addition to the rejuvenating effect, gelatin and olive oil have a good cleansing effect if you add to them 1 tablet of crushed activated carbon or rosemary or lavender oil, no more than 3 drops.

Attention! You need to use pharmaceutical cosmetic oil, which can also be sold in cosmetic stores. Household oil is not used for masks.

Olive oil has been used for skin care several thousand years ago, and due to its beneficial properties, this product remains one of the most popular cosmetics of natural origin to this day. Olive oil is an important component of homemade creams and face masks; it contains a whole complex of vitamins and microelements that have a beneficial effect on the condition of the skin, increase its elasticity and help fight the signs of aging. Face masks with olive oil can be used for any skin type, but they will be especially useful for sensitive dermis prone to dryness and flaking. The main advantage of such caring cosmetics is that it almost never causes allergies and is suitable for women of any age.

What are the benefits of olive oil?

Olive oil is recognized as a rich source of vitamins, in particular vitamin A (retinol) and vitamin E (tocopherol), which, being natural antioxidants, help normalize metabolism and slow down the aging process of cells. In addition, this product contains monounsaturated fats and essential organic acids - linoleic and linolenic, which take part in the construction of cell membranes and improve blood circulation in cells. Olive oil also contains squalene, a hydrocarbon that saturates skin cells with oxygen and prevents moisture loss, and sterols (unsaponifiable substances), which prevent early aging of the dermis and have restorative and regenerating properties.

Indications for use

Olive oil is recommended for use as a moisturizer and rejuvenator. This natural product can be used both in its pure form and as part of homemade masks designed to eliminate the following problems:

  • increased dryness;
  • irritation and peeling;
  • pigmentation;
  • cracks and other skin damage;
  • sagging and loss of elasticity;
  • acne;
  • dull complexion;
  • wrinkles

Rules for using masks

Masks made from olive oil have virtually no contraindications (except for individual intolerance to the components) and are excellent for regular use. But in order to achieve maximum effect from such procedures, it is necessary to take into account the following nuances:

  • To prepare homemade cosmetics, you can use only unrefined olive oil, since such a product is not subjected to thermal or chemical treatment during production, which means it retains its beneficial properties to the maximum.
  • Before applying the prepared composition to your face, it is necessary to conduct a sensitivity test, because any vegetable oil, especially in combination with other products, can provoke allergic reactions.
  • Olive oil can be used not only for dry skin, but also for oily skin. In this case, the masks must contain citrus juices (lemon, grapefruit or orange) or low-fat dairy products.
  • The procedure time is in most cases about thirty minutes (depending on skin type). It is recommended to wash off oily compounds with water with the addition of lemon juice (a teaspoon of juice per one and a half liters of water).
  • You can take care of your face using homemade olive masks two or three times a week for thirty days, after which you need to take a short break.

Please note that there is no need to apply cream after removing the olive mask, because the oil forms a film on the surface of the skin that prevents the penetration of active substances into the cells, and excess fat can clog the pores, and then the skin will not be able to breathe normally.

Today we’ll talk about how to use olive oil on the face for wrinkles and other age-related skin changes. The beneficial properties of this product were known back in the Ancient World. It is no coincidence that the Greeks called it “liquid gold” and “elixir of longevity.” Today, olive extract is widely used in cosmetology. Leading companies use it to create prestigious lines of cosmetics for the care of mature skin. However, olive oil for wrinkles can be used to heal and rejuvenate facial skin at home, preparing all kinds of masks, scrubs, peelings, lotions and compresses based on it.

Cosmetic properties of olive oil

The product is a storehouse of vitamins, acids and nutrients that have a beneficial effect on the condition of the skin, as well as hair and nails.

  • It contains large amounts of vitamin E, which has antioxidant properties. Tocopherol slows down the aging process of the skin, smoothes out fine wrinkles, and helps maintain facial contours.
  • Vitamin A relieves inflammation, promotes rapid healing, and has regenerative properties.
  • Iron increases blood circulation, enriches epithelial cells with oxygen, so that facial skin takes on a fresh and rested appearance.
  • Vitamin D accelerates metabolism, strengthens the protective functions of the skin against external factors such as sun rays, cold, wind, frost.
  • Monounsaturated fatty acids, the content of which olive oil is a leader among other products, have a moisturizing effect, which mature skin needs.

Proper use of olive oil

  • The first and main rule is that for the preparation of masks, scrubs and compresses, you must use only natural, first cold-pressed products.
  • The oil is considered a hypoallergenic product, however, before using it for the first time, it is recommended to conduct a simple test. Place a little oil on your wrist and wait 15 minutes. If there is no allergic reaction on the skin in the form of redness, itching, burning, then the product can be safely used in cosmetic procedures.
  • Masks with olive extract need to be kept on the face for a certain amount of time. It all depends on your skin type. For normal and combined, 30 minutes is enough. For those with oily skin, 10 minutes will be enough. But for women with dry skin, the time to use masks can vary from half an hour to 6-8 hours.
  • Masks based on olive oil should be applied in a course, which usually lasts three weeks. This is due to one property of the product: when applied to the skin, a protective film is formed, which reduces the amount of oxygen reaching the epidermis and clogs the pores.
  • For women with oily skin, cosmetologists recommend using the oil in combination with lemon juice or fermented milk products.
  • Be sure to wash the mask off your face with warm water and then wipe with a damp cloth. Only after this can you apply the cream.

Olive oil masks for wrinkles around the eyes

As usual, the first wrinkles on the face appear in the corners of the eyes, where the skin is thinnest. They are often also called “crow's feet.” Anti-wrinkle olive oil will help make them less noticeable. Let us remind you that it is rich in antioxidants, which slow down the aging process of the body. To do this, you will need to warm the product to a comfortable temperature, dip a cotton pad in it and apply it to the skin of the eyelids for a quarter of an hour. At the end of the procedure, carefully remove any remaining oil.

Below are recipes for masks for the skin around the eyes, where olive oil is combined with other ingredients.

  1. A mixture of olive oil and vitamin E is ideal for skin rejuvenation. You need to thoroughly mix a tablespoon of the product with a few drops of vitamin E and apply it to the skin around the eyes. You can gently massage so that the mask is better absorbed. It is advisable to repeat the procedure every day.
  2. Add lemon juice to the preheated oil, 2-3 drops will be enough. Apply the mixture around the eyes using light patting movements. After a quarter of an hour, remove the remaining mask with a damp cloth. This recipe will help visually remove dark circles under the eyes.
  3. Olive oil with lemon juice and yolk perfectly tightens the skin of the eyelids, makes crow's feet less noticeable and effectively fights pigmentation around the eyes.
  4. One of the age-related changes in facial skin is a feeling of dryness and tightness around the eyes. This problem can be easily eliminated using an olive extract product with the addition of melted pork fat. It will be enough to soften the skin with this mixture every other day.

You can use olive oil against wrinkles around the eyes not only to prepare masks, but also cleansing tonics and lotions.

For this you will need:

  • a tablespoon of fresh cucumber juice;
  • a quarter glass of mineral water;
  • a couple of drops of rose oil;
  • tablespoon olive extract.

Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Since the product consists only of natural products, it must be stored in the refrigerator. Use every day to remove eye makeup.

To create a thermal effect, it is recommended to place a terry towel on top. After 15 minutes, the compress is removed, and the remaining oil is removed with a napkin.

A compress with olive oil gives an immediate effect, so you can use it on the eve of important events. Facial skin quickly acquires elasticity, a fresh and radiant appearance.
