On March 17, folk festivities dedicated to the celebration of Broad Maslenitsa will be held on a grand scale in Izmailovsky Park! This ancient Slavic holiday is a cheerful farewell to winter, illuminated by the joyful anticipation of the coming warmth, spring update nature. Maslenitsa has been a business card Izmailovsky Park. This year the holiday will be even brighter, more fun and, most importantly, more unusual!

Folk festivities will take place at two sites in the park: Central (from 13.00 to 18.00) and Northern (from 12.00 to 18.00).

In the central part of the park they will celebrate Maslenitsa in Izmailovsky style! It all starts with a comic persecution of bachelors. According to tradition in Maslenitsa week special attention devoted to unmarried young men: they are entertained in every possible way, jokes are made about them and they are marked with distinctive signs so that girls can become interested in them. In Izmailovsky Park, all single people will be given “He’s not married yet!” medals.

Next, visitors will be able to leave their wishes and congratulations on the holiday on the “Maslenitsa Pancake” - a huge panel in the form of a large pancake installed near the Big Stage. On the square there will be competitions of “Moscow Harmonists”, “Fist Fights”, and horse riding, and everyone will also have the opportunity to measure their strength in lifting weights and barbells. Maslenitsa has long been famous for the rejection of any restrictions, including food, because Lent will come immediately after it. Therefore, an interactive ritual program “Kiss of Maslenitsa” will be held on Central Square, where each participant will be able to compete for the title of “Moscow’s Best Eater!” and try to bake “Moscow’s Biggest Pancake!” and make mead!

The traditional “Bear Fun” with the participation of live bears will take place at the Round Pond. Throughout the day there will be a crafts fair - “City of Craftsmen”, where master classes will be held on making amulets, wood carving, painting crafts and sculpting on a potter’s wheel! All guests will enjoy a concert program in which such musical and theatrical groups as “Chebatukha”, “Matrekha”, as well as the human and puppet theater “Eccentrics” and many others will take part.

The charity festival of Slavic culture “Spring-Krasna” will take place in the northern part of Izmailovsky Park. As part of the festival, there will be a concert of folk ensembles and performers of Slavic music. Competitions and prizes, reconstructions of ancient battles and master classes, animators and fairy tale characters— all this awaits park guests. Visitors will be able to treat themselves to traditional Slavic dishes: pancakes and kvass. The symbols of the holiday - round dances and buffoons - will lift the spirits of any visitor. The special guest of the holiday is Mikhail Zadornov. At the charity fair, everyone will be able to purchase unusual souvenirs, jewelry, crafts and toys. The culmination of the holiday will be the traditional burning of a straw effigy - a symbol of the passing winter! On February 25 and 26, the Sovereign's courtyard of the Izmailovo Kremlin from a bird's eye view could not be distinguished from the noisy square of the ancient Russian city filled with a holiday. In the morning, Muscovites flocked to the Izmailovo Kremlin to give a royal farewell to winter and cheerfully celebrate the beginning of spring in this one of the most atmospheric places in the capital. In total, over 15,000 people took part in the event over two days.

On the main stage, the guests were entertained by: the hosts of the holiday, Tsarevich Alexander and Tsarevna Anna, the Moscow Cossack Choir, the state ensemble "Guslars of Russia", the folk song ensemble "Merezha", the folk group "Partizan FM", Anna Sizova, the show group "Paraskeva" and other artists folk genre. An old friend of the Moscow public, the brown bear Stepan performed his best numbers and danced a gypsy girl, which delighted the adults and little guests of Tsar Maslenitsa.

The good mood was maintained throughout the holiday by animators in Russian costumes, who invited guests to saw a log or pull a rope, go on miracle skis and climb a high Maslenitsa pole to get a gift. There were many people willing, and the crowd became animated every now and then, encouraging the daredevils with friendly shouts and applause. From the stage, every hour the presenters raffled off valuable prizes from numerous partners of Tsar Maslenitsa.

On February 25, the main event was the traditional Maslenitsa fist fights and wall-to-wall fighting from the masters of wall-to-wall fighting, in which the most fearless guests took part. In the workshops of the Izmailovo Kremlin, hardworking artisans taught ancient crafts to those interested: felting felt boots, pottery and creating Maslenitsa dolls from bast. Right on the street, guests forged nails and horseshoes together with Izmailovo blacksmiths for good luck, and when they got hungry, they went to the wide gluttonous rows to taste hearty pancakes and pies with a variety of fillings, drink mead and sbiten.

During Maslenitsa there was also a special zone called “Retro Maslenitsa”, where you could do retro makeup, take pictures in the surroundings of a Soviet apartment, try famous desserts and leaf through a book of a Soviet classic taken from the shelf.

At the height of the celebration, the “magic ball” flash mob, beloved by guests of the Izmailovo Kremlin, took place, during which animators and presenters from the stage threw balls of wool into the crowd, which the guests tossed to each other, forming a huge pancake of multi-colored woolen threads.
